I'm confused now. Why didn't the push for gay marriage begin in 1969? Or did it?
Because if it didn't, the '70s seem almost wasted.

But back to the topic, the idea of a "nuclear fambly" is something made up recently. People used to have their grandparents and aunts living under the same roof. And that is still the case in many places in the world.
And when I hear people defending "traditional" or "Biblical" families the first thought in my mind is "And I suppose you think that women have smaller feet so they can stand closer to the stove?"

Gay marriage will save the institution of marriage by coupling guys together and lowering the ability for hetero-married men to hookup with other guys.

    Correction: "hetero"-married men.

There is not much to save. It would be easier in the long run if the government would get out if the marriage business completely.

Marriage was originally a civil right. Religion likes to take credit for it but it is not actually true. Marriage was originally created for wealthy white men to own property (women). Women were considered property back then. Religion did not get involved until they found out that they could make money with it.

Want to win the marriage equality argument?

Better marketing. Yes, it is important to argue that this issue is a paramount civil and human right, but along with that, there's even BETTER marketing.

The religious right is trying to sell their view of "family values," right?

    Well...

Let's try to market marriage equality AS a family value. Keep showing pictures and videos of committed partners happy and dedicated to each other. Show pictures of them walking hand-in-hand in the park, walking the dog. Show those two daddies with their little boy.

Some of this marketing is already being done, yes, but I think if it's more emphasized, more will join the equality side.
