Are there any fans of Almodovar in here ?

Aren't his movies a treat to watch ? I love everything about them, the colors , the music, the obsession with women and their habits, the eroticism, the humor.

I don't have a favorite movie of his, I just go through phases where I'm obsessed with one movie or another. Right now, it's " High Heels" , a movie about the crazy relationship between a spanish diva and her neurotic daughter. Victoria Abril and Marisa Paredes ( two muses of his) are both extraordinary in it. Their performances are so natural, so real. And the music is Amaaaazing , two songs I can't get out of my head : Piensa en mi and Un ano de amor both by Luz Casal.

Also , I love how he represents women in their most candid moments : applying night cream on their faces, rushing to the bathroom to take a piss, gossiping about the neighbors. I grew up in a house full of women, and am definitely familiar with some of these images. I can't help but feel homesick or nostalgic of childhood whenever I watch a movie of his.

Anyone to share their feelings about Almodovar's films ??

Terrific movie. I am also fond of Kika.

I've never seen that one. Who knew. I'll have to add it to my Netflix queue. If I ever rejoin Netflix...

I dunno. All About My Mother and Talk to Her are pretty fantastic.
And even second string Almodovar like Tie Me Up Tie Me Down, Vovler and Live Flesh is better than a lot of what comes out cinema wise these days.

I really liked Volver! Not so much Tie Me Up Tie Me Down. But you're right, they're all good. Women on the Verge is just my favorite.

I do like him- and it is better than 90% of whats out there.Faves are 'Law of Desire' [opening scene drives me wild everytime I see it] and 'All About My Mother'...He tends to go too far over the top sometimes, but even that being said he is at his best when the subject is women.
I also agree with you about the soundtracks-play them regularly in our 'Casa Encantada'

    Total fan!!!

Love Carmen Maura and Rossy de Palma; two actress' he's used in his films.

Didn't the ending of "The Skin I Live In" just flip you out.

Antonio Bandera in the "Law of Desire" with his legs up in the air wasn't bad either. LOL

There is another director whose movie I have enjoyed. Bigas Luna directed "Las Edades de Lulu" ( Ages of Lulu ). It was about her sexual growth as a woman. Saw it in Spain during a summer class symposium back in the 90's. The Q&A after the movie was very good. Thank you Salamanca University!

Many great ones have already been mentioned, but my favorite is the deliciously perverse "Matador". And it has Antonio Banderas at his cutest.

Law of desire, High Heels, all about my Mother and Volver are my other favorites.

I found bad education to be really intense and haunting. It made me think of my best friend when I was a kid. We shared a similar experience minus the - SPOILER- abuse by the priest.

yeah maybe you saw my post here http://www.realjock.com/reply?topicid=2584125&postid=2611100

"Todo Sobre Mi Madre" - start at 10:54 - the scene when Esteban runs after Huma Rojo, the camera pans away from his mother standing in the rain under a colourful umbrella. When Esteban gets hit by a car, you see things in his perspective, falling in slow motion, and seeing Manuela running to him. Her screams and sobbing get me every time.

I'm a huge fan, loved Volver and got to see The Skin I Live In right when it hit theaters here. I'm glad I live in a city where they will release his stuff in theaters. I remember seeing Bad Education with one of my best friends while we were in college.

Live Flesh is one of my favorites. Tragic, but still an incredibly sexy film.

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! was the first one of his that I saw, and so it's always special to me. Antonio Banderas came all the way to America to be a big star, and yet never did a single movie that was on par with his Almodovar films, nor did he find a director who did him the same justice.

Matador is a great pas-de-deux, with characters turned on by slasher movies.

Dark Habits is fab -- didn't it sort of become Sister Act stateside? -- because it features weirdo nuns named Sister Snake, Sister Manure, and Sister Sewer Rat (!).

hmm.I beg to differ. Not a bad film but not his best.If you want to see a really really good film that is similar in a way to 'mala educacion' check out 'Le Confessional' a Quebecois Film that is one of my fave films of all time.
It is awesome and a tribute to Hitchcock..
