Hi guys so I'm going to be in Miami for a week in early November. I was wondering would it be worth it to fly to Cancun for a few days?

I do want to spend sometime in Miami but perhaps 6 days might be too long, however how many days should I spend at least in Cancun?

Look forward to your wise answers!

    Cheers icon_biggrin.gif

Cancun can be horrible unless you go to Chichen Itza,Tuluum,Xel Ha ,Coba and Playa Del Carmen.

If you're looking for a relatively low key getaway, stay in Playa del Carmen instead. It's only an hour south of Cancun and there are buses which drive directly there from the airport. As vanfreak said, you can (and should) visit some of the cultural sites, too. A weekend there is plenty of time.

Cancun is amazing if you want to go partying, if not then I would just stay in Miami.

If it were me, I would go to Cuba for a few days instead of Cancun. If you're not US citizen, you can probably go direct. If you are US, you would have to go through Cancun or the Bahamas.

Depends on what you like to do.

I loved the Mayan Riviera. If I went back, here is what I would do. Rent a car at the Cancun airport. The rates were as good or better as what we found elsewhere. Drive to Playa Del Carmen and stay at a cool boutique hotel. There are several nice ones. In the morning go on excursions to ancient ruins. In the afternoon go to Akumal beach with your snorkel and mask and swim with wild turtles. In the evening wander the streets of Playa del Carmen and strike up conversations with travellers from all over, and check out a good restaurant.

If I was interested mainly in exploring ruins I might stay closer to Tulum as it is closer to ancient cities.

If I mainly wanted to party, I would not leave Cancun, and might not leave Miami.

So there is no such thing as partying in Miami?? icon_surprised.gif

To me, Cancun would be a nice break from the wildness of Miami. And Vitamin_D is correct, Playa del Carmen is a much more relaxed place than the Cancun Hotel Zone.

OP, are you thinking of an all-inclusive resort for your stay there? If so, I can pass along some possibilities to you.

That would be great. I'm really just wanting to experience something different but I'm not sure if a couple of days would be enough and if it is worth the trip.

How far is Playa del Carmen from Cancun?

Well, I went to Cancun and honestly, it's beautiful. But you should definitely include trips to the Maya Rivera. That's just what makes it worth.

That and the beach. I'd go If I was you.

If you are a diver then it is totally worth it. Do some cavern dives in the cenotes- absolutely amazing. Try to get in a turtle dive in playa del carmen and maybe a night dive or a wreck dive too.

I would say Miami is good enough and why pay the extra $$$ when you are visiting Miami.

Miami has everything Cancun has to offer:
    Beaches
    Great bars / clubs
    Resort Hotels
    Spanish People

Why not check out Cancunicon_question.gif You might not be able to get to this part of the world so after visiting Miami you should take a side trip and check out Cancun for a couple days.

Arrive in Cancun and get on the bus straight away down the coast. Playa del Carmen is better but still packed full of tourists.

Try Valladolid as a base to explore the Mayan ruins.

    Suerte!
