I've forgotten most of the French I learned...
(In French, languages are spelled with a lower-case letter.)

Sans beaucoup de pratique au bout de quinze ans, j'ai oublié la conjugaison des verbes et des expressions idiomatiques.

    I'm sure that's not correct...icon_confused.gif

Il est juste midi passé ici, en Californie. La météo est tellement grand aujourd'hui, je vais aller à la salle de gym de soulever des poids et nager 40 longueurs à la piscine. N'avez-vous pu venir avec moi?

Im sorry to tell you that French is quiet a worldwide spread language. Most of African countries are speaking French, lots of Islands, Canada, South East Asia, Louisiana.Latin is useless. I did learn German, and its quiet usefull for european, but not worldwide. Same situation I guess for you with spanish, only Spain and South American countries use it!

Have a look at this : French is the most influencial language after english, even if its not spoken by the majority worldwide

"Despite a clear downward trend relative to English, French remains the world's second most influential language. Its prestige remains extremely high, not least thanks to the tireless efforts and the vast sums spent by the French government, but also by the pride taken in their language by practically all French people. In Hong Kong I once talked to a taxi driver and congratulated him on his excellent English. He said that he could not do without English in his job but that he now wanted to learn French even if he had little practical use for it. He wanted to learn it for its social prestige.

The number two position of French in the league table of the ten most influential languages is not so much endangered by the top language (which cannot be overtaken again in the foreseeable course of events) as by Spanish. Coming up quietly from behind it is spreading rapidly in the USA and may expand further afield yet. Latin America is no longer an economically depressing and often depressed area, no longer the backyard of the USA. With growing self-confidence, despite setbacks, Latin America will boost the value of Spanish (and with it that of its closely related Portuguese in Brazil) on the world's linguistic marketplace."

French is actually quite useless - hardly essential.

English is the lingua franca of our day, and you know that pisses off the French. Tough shit, France opted for managed national decline long ago.

In fairness to the French, it's not that difficult to piss them off. They get a bug up their ass at the drop of a chapeau.

Im not saying that french is the first language... I know that english is the lingua franca of our day. French comes second with spanish. I think its quiet arrogant from english speaking people (mostly americans) to considare that they dont even need to learn an other language. I do speak French, English, German and Spanish, and it didnt pissed me off to learn them. I think its beeing open minded, and just aware that you are not alone in the world, and you do need to interact with others.

PS: France didnt managed to decline, we only are growing slowly and constantly. Capitalism destroy the world today, and it havent been create by French. We know that we arent the most powerfull, or influencial country in the world, but we only are 63 millions, again 350 millions Americans, or 1300 millions Chinese. SO we I think we manage quiet well, maybe not from a capitalist regard, but we maintain, our familly structure, way of life, indentity... Just give me an other "little country" (by size), who have the same "Aura". Keep in mind that we still are the first country for tourism, 73 millions people coming every years (more than our population)... France still interest the world, and we proud of it!

Brazilian Portuguese (my mother tongue) has borrowed over 5000 words from French, so I can't escape this language even when I speak my mother tongue. Being a romance language like Portuguese, I believe it was a bit easier for me to learn it, though I still hate French homophony until this day. Is there any language as bad as French when it comes to homophony?
