Oh, now I get it. The Repubs don't wnat gay rights because it would shed light on them being closeted pedophiles...not the closeted homo's we always thought them to be.

This particular rep is an openly gay Dem. See thread link above.

St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin communicated with police through a letter (dated August 16) that charges will not be filed because the age of consent in Minnesota is 16-years-old and Gauthier's hook-up was 17.In addition, police reports show both the 17-year-old and the DFL-endorsed candidate said the acts were consensual.

Kinda vital information left out of the headline giving a wholly misleading idea of the story, but Minn State rep caught having consensual sex with a consenting adult doesn't fit the OP's agenda?

Yeah, they don't let facts get in the way of the need for a good salacious story that encourages their outrage....icon_wink.gif

When there is real stuff to be outraged about, such people stake a claim to irrelevance and defend it to end.

To be fair, all the OP said as commentary was "He will not run for re-election now." And turns out, he's right.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/disgraced-rest-stop-sex-rep-kerry-gauthier-seek-re-election-wake-scandal-article-1.1142381

NY Daily NewsA disgraced Minnesota lawmaker who police say had oral sex in a rest stop with a 17-year-old boy admitted Wednesday to the “obvious tragic embarrassment” before ultimately declaring that he will not seek re-election.

Rep. Kerry Gauthier, 56, who represents the Duluth area in the state Legislature, had released an earlier statement defying Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party leaders by announcing he would stay in the race this fall. But, he had a change of heart, according to the Associated Press.

“I changed my mind,” he said. “Too much. It’s just too much.”

Gauthier, who is unmarried and is gay, said in an earlier news release in which he vowed to stay in the race that he is a “chemically dependent person and has been in recovery for over 30 years with one relapse,” reported ABC affiliate KSTP.

The first-term legislator didn’t detail his “chemical” dependency nor indicate that he would leave office before January. He was hospitalized last week as the scandal broke, and told the AP that he overdosed on muscle relaxants in a suicide attempt.

“I also need to recommit myself to my sobriety program,” he said in his earlier statement.

He doesn’t plant to attend a Friday special session of the House of Representatives to vote on flood-relief aid for his district, which was affected in June by flash flooding.

“I just think it would be a distraction,” Gauthier told the AP.

I've had lunch with NJDewd, didn't get my usual allergic reaction like I do around hard-core Right Wingers. Got no vibes that he has a 1-sided pro-Republican political agenda, like the conservaposse does. Pleasant guy overall.

Thx AD, yes no agenda. Thats why I didnt put DEM in the headline - its irrelevant. But I'm confused the link story I posted has him telling the kid he "doesn't want to be outed"...If he is already out, what's with the statement?

It was the consenting kid who was afraid of being outed, telling that to the cops.

Fox 21The 17-year-old told authorities that he and Gauthier had been "feeling each other" and that they had met over Craigslist. He expressed concerned that he would be "outted" and that it was Gauthier's idea to meet at the rest stop, according to the narrative.

    AD's response is funny.

Another example how everything in American politics is myopicly expressed exclusively in terms of "left-wing" or right-wing":

An agenda does not have to be right wing or left wing.

The apparent "agenda" I referred to is crass sensationalism at the expense of a state rep.

Being peripherally into politics, I think that is cheap and shows a lack of integrity on the part of the headline writer.

At least where I am - the people who write the headlines know they will come face to face with us on the street or in the stores - so our headlines are more truth than thruthiness.
