    Despite all the homophobic policies we're hearing about in Russia (and especially St. Petersburg) these days, organizers are hoping that all plans are a-go for Queerfest.

    Below you can view the scheduled program. Most of the basic information is offered in English, but nearly all the news articles and updates are only in Russian:

    Lena Katina, formerly of Tatu, is the major headline of this event. It seems organizers are relying a lot on her celebrity status as a positive figure for the LGBT community in Russia. Katina will be performing a number of new her solo work since Tatu broke up in late 2010.

    I hope this Queerfest is a success but Russia and St Petersburg in general both have a long way to go when it comes to equality for the GLBT population.

    Indeed. The same can be said of all of Eastern Europe in general including recent EU states.
