Paul Ryan Said Something That Should Force Him Off the Ticket, But You Probably Didn't Hear About It

Posted: 08/27/2012 8:14 am By Paul Slansky

Last week, Paul Ryan gave an interview in which, defending his position that there should be no excuses for abortion, he referred to rape as a "method of conception."

Wow, right? Talk about a benign euphemism. Rape -- RAPE! -- is now a "method of conception." You know, like love-making, just without the love.

There could be no greater testament to the utter abdication of responsibility by what passes for a "news" media in America in 2012 than that, despite the grotesquerie of this cavalierly callous comment, chances are better than good that this is the first you're hearing of it.

Here, watch it -- and try to figure out why this has gotten NO MAINSTREAM MEDIA play (not even here at the Huffington Post) despite it being, to my mind, a far more offensive remark than Todd Akin's imbecilic blurt of last weekend. What, are we tired of stupid remarks about rape now, so Ryan gets a free pass?

I used to think I was pro life, but after learning more about it I realized I'm pro choice. Hearing Ryan makes me glad I changed my view. It's not right for men to oppress women with laws that rule over their bodies. If you were born, you have your mother to thank, but you don't have the right to make choices for other women.

    The thing is ........

You cannot really be Pro-Life and I hate that term
because once you go down that path you open yourself up to the criticism that the right is dealing with right now

If you say that stopping a pregnancy is wrong ... and it is killing a living being
What about that fetus that IS caused by a rape or an act of incest

Isn't THAT killing a living being as well?
Then what about .... when the Mother's life is in danger ?
Do you sacrifice the mother because you'll be intentionally ending the life of the fetus?

It is intellectually unsound to be against choice
You cannot defend it without sounding like a lunatic ....

    Really? Really?
What does he read at bedtime? Psychopathia Sexualis? The author of that masterpiece thought that rape was a means of conception too.

In a way, we are all pro-life. I am pro-choice, but I would like to see women not be put into a position to have to make that choice. We can't stop it completely, because they happen for many different reasons, but through sex education and access to contraception (something many conservatives are against), we can certainly cut down on the number.

How any women in their right man can vote for these jerks is beyond me. icon_neutral.gif
