Okay guys, here's what I've found through a quick and dirty search. There are a number of places in the same area as where the kayaking group met up. They all seem to offer the same basic services (equipment rental, field to play, etc.).

Here are the options:

* West End Paintball - Route 9, Leicester, MA
http://www.westendpaintball.com/

* Executive Paintball Indoor - Blanford, MA (west of Springfield)
http://www.executivepaintball.com/

* Camelot Paintball - Chicopee, MA
http://www.camelotpaintball.com/

* Xtreme Paintball - Agawam, MA (just south of Springfield)
http://www.xtremepbma.com/index.html

Shall we narrow down the place and then work out a time?

Most of those are out by where my parents live. I'm trying to remember, if we have people coming from the east, that will make for a hella-long drive for them though. In which case I'd lean toward West End, since it's closer, I think, to everyone.

I'd go for one of the one's other than Blandford. That's not too easy to get to. The other one's are probably easy for all of us. I don't mind going to Western Mass, although for selfish reasons I'd rather be at the one in Leicester, but that's no big deal.

I think that putting down a date would be important. I assume that most are outside, so that we wouldn't want to do it when theirs a possibility of snow. What are some dates that work with your duathalon training schedule Gig?

Well West End is pretty close to where we were Kayaking and they offer doughnuts or Pizza (says a lot about their typical client) - Closest to Bahstun. Works for me.

Executive Paintball Indoor - almost the same distance for us in CT but furthest away for you wicked guys from Bahstun.

Camelot Paintball - Chicopee, MA - nearer to Springfield doesn't look like they have 'woods' but rather playing fields. Good thing or bad thing - I don't know.

Xtreme Paintball - Agawam, MA (just south of Springfield) well for one thing, afterwards we could always end the day relaxing on the rollercoasters at 6 Flags NE. I couldn't log on to their site. It's not a problem with the url but with the server end.

I started looking at pbreveiw.com, pbnation.com and other site reviews and I realize, I don't know enough about it to know what the terms are (bonusballing, bunkering, speedball vs. paintball, paint checks, etc.)

Some are open to everyone while some are by appt only to groups of 10 or more.

It still sounds like fun!

Yeah, there are plenty of places further east but in my effort to stay central these seemed to be the best options I found.

I guess it might come down to how many people we could draw if we moved things further east. Any thoughts from folks?

Hey Kinetic, if TigerTim can fly in from Cleveland, you can fly in from Texas *and* visit your relatives. It's a two-fer!

Does this all show how much fun we had last weekend?

Ok - to bump this back up and get the conversation started again, I'm going to suggest a vote on one of these two:

* Camelot Paintball - Chicopee, MA
http://www.camelotpaintball.com/

* Xtreme Paintball - Agawam, MA (just south of Springfield)
http://www.xtremepbma.com/index.html

To answer a couple of questions that came up: with speedball, just think dodgeball only with paintballs. Woods is a lot more fun as they usually have man made shelters/bunkers in addition to just a natural terrain.

As for going as a group, we will need to scrounge up at least 10 people to play just amongst ourselves. Otherwise, we'll get paired up with whomever else shows up that day.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Then there are dates. I'm going to guess most people will be planning something for Columbus Day weekend (Oct. 11-12). Diver is out the 18-19th.

That leaves these two weekends (if we're only considering October anyway):

Oct.
4-5, 25-26

12th if it's going to be that weekend. I'll be coming back from a 5-7 day backpacking trip in the Whites with my family. That will hopefully give me at least one day to recover (I *think* we're getting back in time for that)

Apparently there's also a paintball place that's fairly popular in Grafton, MA

Yep - I just presumed Saturday myself.

As for JMS, I'm happy to put you up although, like I said - that means an extra bit of driving (oh, and no cat allergies I hope!).

That said - I'd highly recommend making Friday your travel day so you're not up at an obscene hour and then driving 6 hours just to run around getting shot at.

Early afternoon like the kayaking? 11ish...?

So here's the deal. If the 4-5th works for folks, I say proceed. If folks still have flexibility, it looks like Columbus Day weekend (11-12) is the only option left.

Sorry!

2 bgcat
3 matt45
4 gatormedic
5 diver
6 jms
7 mike
8 jockbos? (I talked to him in chat about it but don't know how serious he is).

That leaves us short 2-3 people to form our own private group. I'm not hung up having a private group but if we can round up 3 more, that would be cool.

Come on you other New Englanders! We know you're out there!

No worries - we'll just be happy to have you along!

I'm going on vacation at the end of this week and my return will put us one month out. So, I probably won't start asking for firm commitments (i.e. "I'm signing us up as a group on X") until a couple of weeks before Oct. 11th.

Here's the info on the two places we agreed upon:

Camelot Paintball

610 New Lombard Rd. Chicopee, MA 01020

Has a large stock of rental gear for any function. We have 40 sets of rental packages available with a reservation.

Rental Pack=$40 per player. Includes; admission, paintballs, free air refills, marker {gun}, and goggles. We have paint and other gear avalable too.

Open Play games every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am - 4:00pm. No reservation needed.

413-348-5878

They had a link to a pretty cool video for anyone who wants to 'see' what paintball looks like.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Xtreme Paintball

369 Main st. Agawam, MA 01001

Rentals: $40 Includes:
500 rounds of paint
Tippmann 98 Custom paintball gun with loader
Compressed air tank with all day air
Thermal Goggles (wont fog up on you)
Pack with pods
All Day Admission

You don't have to have an organized team. Xtreme encourages and organizes weekend walk-on games, where anybody can show up and play. We will put you on even teams and run games all day long, allowing everyone to get plenty of playing time.

In order to book a private group, you must have at least ten (10) people. Additionally, you will need to put a $100 non refundable deposit down- this deposit locks you in for that day. If you need to re-schedule the event, please give us at least 3 days notice.

Also, should you book a group and show up with a lesser number, you are still responsible for any price difference. Please note that for groups, whoever booked the appt is responsible for collecting all money.

Joe at 413-626-8212

=========================================
Just based on the flexiblity offered and the same price structure, I'd vote for Camelot but I'm open to whichever the group chooses.

And are we agreed. October 11th at 11AM?

Having never done paintball, do we need to wear clothes that we plan to throw away at the end of it? Just figuring out how to plan for the day.

Also, anyone that wants to carpool from the Boston area, email me and we'll figure out how many people, etc. I figure we can meet somewhere near the intersection of Route 128 and the Mass. Pike, and then pile in the cars. 9:30 a.m. is probably the best time to make the 1.25 hour trip out there and be there at 11 a.m.

Generally speaking, the paint will wash out. It's kinda thick so it's not going to really soak in. That said - I wouldn't wear your $100 jeans.

Jeans, cargo pants, etc. are good for the bottom half. Something that'll blunt the sting of the impact. Same goes for the top half. Hopefully it won't be warm so wearing long sleeves won't be a problem. Maybe a t-shirt with a decent windbreaker? You're going to be running and getting sweaty (esp with the headgear on) so being able to 'ventilate' will be helpful.

You can check out how people get decked out here. Pick any of the album links on the left hand side of the page - and note that these were taken in the middle of the summer!

at that level its gets very expensive. i had maybe 2500 in gear, spent about 50 a weekend on practices plus gas. and then i began to travel for tournaments. my favorite was on huntington beach where they layed turf over the sand on the beach and set up nets and played.

Yikes! Gotcha - I know the problem of ever escalating equipment costs! I'm forever trying to sneak something new in without getting caught....lol.

POST PAINTBALL:

So BostonMuscleDave and MikeonMain won't be able to join us for the actual shooting part of the day but both have asked what our plans are for post massacre fun.

I figured we'd be playing for at least a few hours which would mean a perfect time for a late lunch. Anyone game?

Works for me! I'd be happy to have some down time to talk about who we shot and have some real "war stories" . The weather should be great, so we should just hang out. Any ideas of where to go?

Well, if anyone is interested in carpooling from the Boston area, let me know. I'd rather not go alone.

I'm planning on leaving around 9:30 a.m. or so from Arlington.

When trying to mapquest or google this place put it as 610 Lombard Rd. Not 610 New Lombard Rd. It doesn't work for some reason with New Lombard Rd.
So we're meeting there at 11am right?

Yeah, it looks like New Lombard and Lombard Road are all the same road so as long as you get there, you'll be good.

And yes, 11 it is.

Thanks to all the guys who came out today. It was fun and a unique experience. I did notice that even though it was National Coming Out Day, we really didn't come out to those young guys.

The pictures are downloaded. I just have to figure out how to post some here.

Had an awesome time and glad we had a good group - including our little baby teens!

LOL - and that occurred to me as well, matt45710 - we should have told them as they were leaving - "BTW, you just got pwned by a bunch of homos - well, except Panther anyway..."

So by my count, I've got 4 nice welts - 5 if you include what's probably under the hair on my head....what else have people got?!

Pics - looking forward to see those!

I've got really two that I can see: inside of my right knee, and on my right clavicle where I got hit during that last game of Predator.

Photos will be coming!

The two shots to my knee showed no welts, and the really painful palm of the hand shot seems fine. The front shoulder/clavicle shot is the one that gave me a welt but didn't hurt nearly as much as the others.
All the other shots (based on the splatters on my clothes and face) didn't register. I think when I was shot in the face, the others hits that followed didn't register because I just dropped.

What a blast it was though.
