I am sure this has happened to you before:

You saw a handsome guy on TV talking and moving, etc. and you really liked what you saw, so you google him and realized that he doesn't photograph well. Then you go on to YouTube to look for a few more clips, and voila, he's cute and handsome again.

Likewise, you've also seen people with great still pictures but when you meet them in person....well, (you get the idea)

My point is that photo is a snapshot of a time-frozen image frame, video / life is continuous and these all alter our visual perception of beauty. icon_cool.gif

    That's all.

Then you get him in the bedroom and all he wants to do is eat cheap microwave popcorn while you file his fingernails.

So true, you can really play around with a photo or even a video at times as you get the oppurtunity to edit, crop, setup lighting, airbrush, whatever. Boy how much would I love life if I had the perfect lighting no matter where I went.

That all being said, then you come across the guys who look beautiful no matter the conditions. Whether it's in person, in a dark room, on cam, in a video, or just the voice over the phone.

Wait.. I think that guy exists, right?

In all works on the other side too, as you said. icon_smile.gif

Famously unphotogenic here. But then most people make a better impression in person; the rest are models.

Photos are funny things sometimes. I've known guys who don't look great in photos, but who look great in person. I've known guys who don't look that great in person, but who look great in photos. I've known guys who look completely different in every photo they take. You almost wouldn't think it was the same person. I don't think I look good in photos, at least I hope I look better in person.

I'm definitely more telegenic than photogenic. I even look better on video stills than regular photos, which is why I shoot video and take stills for profile pics and the like.

I've seen some guys with a certain amount of body fat, or because of the lighting, or for whatever reason... their muscles aren't sharply defined. You just don't see them in a still image. But in video, you see the muscles moving under their skin and they are much more obvious.

The other issue is that people only pic photos in which they look great. Who would post a bad photo of himself? (Okay, some people do). But you always get final approval. It's kind of like giving references for a job. You only give the names of people who will give you a glowing reference and make you look good. Why would you give an employer the name of someone who would give you a bad reference? Lol.

I don't rely too much on photos. A photo is in 2D, and you can't get a good feeling for depth. That's why guys with very sharp/strong facial features appear to be more attractive in pictures.

I've just accepted that I look gross in pictures. The ones people take of me are the worst. I think Bill and Doug are the only two people to have taken a decent shot of me.
LOL. My facial features are too round/smooth. I look horrible in pics. But I don't think I'm too repulsive in person. I do manage to get lucky once in a while. icon_lol.gif

I remember seeing an article on daily mail about how the camera lens affects your looks.

By definition, any smartphone camera will make me look much uglier than reality. Old webcams make me look like a model. High def webcams make me look slightly worse than reality, but still better than smartphone cameras. My point and shoot camera is the most realistic if the lighting is favorable. No wonder I look different in every picture I appear.

As someone mentioned earlier, there are so many variables that are at play.

From the equipment/camera used; to lighting that is natural like sunlight or indoor lighting; background noise/absence; then it could be attire worn that is casual, sportive or formal; then most importantly it's diet in my estimation.

Leaner, angular guys tend to have better photos than guys that aren't so low in body fat. However for those guys that aren't lean or angular in person...they can look better because your eyes aren't focused primarily on them as it would if it were a still photo. Obviously, because there are other things that keep your attention with that person - like body language, facial expressions, interaction.

Pretty much pics & vids are ways to get an idea of a person. That said, it's better to simply meet them in person.

Some people will look exactly like their pics/videos; others will look kinda like their pics/videos; then there are others that will look nothing like their pics/videos.

However, one never knows until you meet them.

I'm incredibly unphotogenic. Sometimes it really bothers me. I've gotten a little better over the years posing for pictures. I really don't think I'm as ugly as my pictures show me to be, but I think that's just wishful thinking.
