I just met the president

Got to work this morning and one of our regular customers asked if I wanted his extra pass to go see the president give a speech a few towns over. I wasn't able to get tickets the last few times he was in the area, so I obviously said yes.

I was expecting to be sitting up in the stands hundreds of yards away, but somehow the guy I was with managed to get us in the front row right in front of the stage.

It was amazing. He gave pretty much the same speech he gave last night with a few differences, but seeing him live as opposed to on TV is a completely different experience. Joe Biden spoke before him, which was also great. I also got to see my governor and one of my senators speak before them.

Afterwards I got to shake his hand, something I honestly never thought I would do. I've lived in New Hampshire, the first in the nation primary state all of my adult life and the only national politician I've met in person is Joe Lieberman. Today made up for that disappointment in spades.

Not only did I get to shake the presidents hand, and the vice president's hand, and Jill Biden's hand...but Michelle Obama put both of her hands on my face and looked me in the eyes and told me "I hope you are ready to fight." I was sure that I had passed out from dehydration and was hallucinating at that point.

I have never been more ready to fight in my life... I thought I was fired up after watching the convention. I was wrong. If you ever get a chance to see this man speak in person, take it.

The president is smaller than I expected. Michelle is beautiful. It was so hot out today that everyone there looked a mess, even the president was pulling napkins from his pocket to wipe sweat off his brow during his speech. Not a drop of sweat on the first lady or a hair out of place, and of course she was dressed amazingly. I can understand people not liking the president. I don't get the attacks on Michelle, IMO she is the personification of class but still down to earth.

That is so cool. The only president I ever met was Reagan. I had the flu and a high fever at the time. I wondered what would happen if I coughed on him.

What a lucky guy you are.

I saw Bill Clinton from about a hundred yards away in NYC back in the 1990's.
    It was an electrifying experience.

His presence was like jolt of lightning.

I know the geography, but wondered if you might be in that area regardless. Sad to hear you will not. icon_sad.gif

    Great pics, BTW.
