So I'm going to Vegas from Sept 30 to Oct 7th!

Was hoping to get some recommendations for activities, specific clubs, bars, casinos (Doesn't need to be gay related, but I don't care if it is)

    So far I've got
    - bungee jumping (Which I googled and is apparently a controlled descent at the stratosphere. Hope it's still fun tho)
    - indoor skydiving
    - road trip to the Grand canyon
    - Visit Hoover dam
    - "O" at the Bellagio

I'm gonna google things as well but I figured why not grab some first hand opinions here!

I'll be there around the same time.
I'm planning on hiking in Red Rock Canyon. I'll also check out the O'Callaghan-Tillman Bridge.

I haven't checked out which djs will be in town then, but there should be something fun going on.

As for gay stuff, were you thinkin shirtless guys or Bette/Cher?

If you're into shows, the show "O" at the Bellagio is amazing. I think it is the most incredible of all the Cirque du Soleil shows I've seen. I haven't seen La Rev at the Wynn, but I hear it is amazing as well.

Here is a video of "O" to give you an idea but I don't think it really captures just how spectacular it is.

Yes, I love hiking. Depending on how far these places are I'll have to consider them, and depending on how hungover I may be icon_surprised.gif

Not really into the cher thing (Don't even know who bette is lol) but anything fun. Going with my straight female friend but she'd be down for anything haha

Excellent. My friend actually did mention this show so I guess it's a must see! We will go see this for sure now regardless of price.

If you've never been, the Hoover Dam is well worth the time to go visit. There are tours that just go to the dam, skipping all the bs like the chocolate factory etc.(unless you're into that). They pick you up in the morning and have you back by noon or so- around $60.

Fremont Street is a must see for the light show and general atmosphere. You can take the bus from the Strip for $3, but try and catch the express otherwise it takes forever to get there.

You didn't mention where you are staying. My favorite casino is Planet Hollywood because it tends to attract a more lively crowd. Plus, I win there icon_smile.gif There's enough different options that you can find a spot that suits you.

If you like shopping, Vegas is the place. Try the Forum Shops @ Caesar's, The Miracle Mile @ PH, and the shops at the Venetian(I forget what they call that mall, but it's huge!)

I can't really help you with club info, I'm not a club- goer.

If you've got any specific questions fell free to email me. I've been 8 or 9 times now and have a pretty good feel for the place- I'll be back Thanksgiving week.

    Have fun!

Blue Man Group is a fun show, they're at the Venietian. The laser light show on Fremont St shouldn't be missed, and don't forget the indoor and outdoor fountain shows at Bellagio.

Not sure what type of entertainment you enjoy, but in terms of gay clubs and bars:

    - Krave, probably the flagship gay venue in Vegas
    - The Garage, has a divey feel to it.
    - Drink and Drag, one of the newer venues in Vegas
    - Share Nightclub, also relatively new
    - Rev Lounge, gay night on Sundays
    - The Fruitloop, a collection of bars and clubs located very closed to UNLV (fun place, a little seedy though).
    - there are a few others too

Again, really depends on the type of entertainment you like. I tried not to be too critical in either direction because I did not want to color your perception of any of the venues.

    In terms of shopping:
    - I think a post before me took care of that.

    Outdoorsy:
    - Hoover Damn
    - Red Rock

Going out on a limb here, but if you happen to be so inclined, there are gun stores that will let you shoot a machine gun in their indoor range. It's suprisingly easy and fun!

Something I forgot to mention since it'll still be warm enough while you're there- pool parties!

A piece of advice. Do not take a shuttle bus from the airport to your hotel. You will sit on the bus until it is full, and then stop at each passenger's hotel along the way. A cab to the center Strip costs about $20+ tip and is well worth it to avoid the hassle and the wait. I took a shuttle-once.

Oh, I'm staying at the...Grandview? My friend have a timeshare or whatever. It's a bit off the strip but I'm ok with that =)

Hoover dam! Thanks for reminding me. I'll add that to the list haha
I'm not hugely into clubs either, but my friend is, and how can I say no to one if it's really good (and my vacation).

And thanks! I'll take you up on the offer if I have questions icon_wink.gif

This intrigues me. I think I'll check this out, thanks!

Oh right, my friend did mention a pool party. I forget where at, a hotel she might stay a night at. Haven't been at a pool party since Thailand. I miss them.

Thanks for all the ideas and recommendations gentlemen. Keep 'em comin'!

My advice- save your money and visit another city with actual culture. Vegas really is just hype with little to support the hype.

Honestly, I only agreed to go when my friend invited me so I could see the Grand Canyon haha

But now I'm gonna make the best of it. I couldn't live there, but a week visit from this guy should be fun. Couldn't go multiple times, but gotta at least go once!

There's several gay pool parties in Vegas:

    http://bestgaylasvegastravel.com/2010/07/15/gay-pool-parties-in--las-vegas.aspx

Hydrat at Mandalay Bay and the one at Blue Moon are probably the most well known. If you want a straight pool party, then they're everywhere.

And yes, Vegas is a completely over-hyped, tacky, plastic, glitter & glitz with no-actual-substance kind of place. That's why I love it. In small doses.

I spent 24 hours there (which was long enough) during a road tripin 2006. I was lucky enough to get a room with a strip view at the top of the MGM Grand. The whole place is very spectacular by night. The Bellagio Fountains are particularly stunning.

I've seen both O and Le Reve a couple of times. In my opinion Le Reve is hands down the better of the two. Though O is definitely worth seeing. If you had to pick one, however, I would go with Le Reve every time.

And if you're into raunchy, completely inappropriate humor AND you like Cirque type acts...go see Absinthe at Caesar's Palace. It's absolutely hilarious and extremely impressive. But definitely offensive.

If you play blackjack go to the Pleasure Pit in at Planet Hollywood. One scantily clad dealer told me that gay guys she deals to always win. I was the only one at the table winning and she asked if I was gay... I said yeah, and she was like "the chips don't lie".
