The couple first brought this case to the U.S. Eastern District Court of Michigan. They amended the adoption complaint at the suggestion of Judge Bernard Friedman after he gave them time to decide on expanding the lawsuit. Since it was his suggestion, it may give some idea of the direction he will go. If he finds for this couple, then it would be appealed to the 6th Circuit putting marriage equality before yet another U.S. Circuit Court. Slowly it seems, we are going to get there.

Makes me wonder what polling In Mich would be today on thoughts of gay marriage Vs when the ban was put in place many moons ago. icon_confused.gificon_cool.gif

Poll: Michigan residents attitude change on gay marriage, civil unions

Nearly three out of four Michigan residents now believe that gay couples should be allowed to get married or engage in civil unions, up from 62-percent last August. Republicans and independents are about evenly split on the issue.

Too bad that we voted on this in 2004. The ban on same-sex marriage passed by 58% then and that was actually one of the closest compared to other states so Michigan did not have as much ground to make up as some states.

There are a LOT of GOP-appointed judges there...taking it to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals would be very risky...

But if the couple wins in the Eastern District Michigan, they wouldn't have a choice. The other side will make that choice. After that, they could appeal to the Supreme court, unless by that time it has already been decided in similar case.

Yes, that was one of the things that Bush Jr considered his biggest success.
