It is no secret that Caslon is hopelessly out of the loop about such things as Facebook, MySpace, etc.

I got the following in my personal email today:

Agustina added you as a friend on Facebook. We need to confirm that you know Agustina in order for you to be friends on Facebook.

I clicked the link with it to see who this is. Some girl who I do not know.

I dont understand why I would get this. Is this some kind of spam?

Some people like to brag about the number of friends they have on facebook, so you'll run into people that like to facebook-friend you even if you barely know them.

If you have a shirtless photo as your profile pic, it may be that she thinks you're good looking.

Those are some of the reasons why off the top of my head that I can come up with. Personally, I don't like adding as friends, people that I don't know, so I don't accept request from strangers. It can get annoying if they're the type of person to add a lot of apps and send you invites.

Thanks. I never use the damn facebook. I dont remember why I set up the account. ...Oh, I remember, a young german friend instigated it for something, but I forget what.

I have looked again and I am still perplexed as to why she did this. I do have the same flexing pic on there that I have here. Poor girl! Pining away for something she will never have. ... icon_lol.gif

If you can't recognize her, then I'd say your pic is the reason why she's contacting you. It's uncommon outside of gay-oriented websites to see fit/muscular guys with shirtless pics in their profile. From what I've seen at least. I guess we see so many here in RJ that we get used to it.

Since you're on this website, you probably already know this, but as a word of advice: girls DO have cooties. Stay away from them at all cost!

The LAST damn thing anybody has to worry about is me getting anywhere near a female!

I get these on MySpace all the time. I consider them spam, especially when they say "female looking for attractive, professional man for companionship". Hello, hasn't she looked at my profile?

I love facebook. Its allowed me to reconnected w/ people I haven't seen in years.
Some from my childhood, others from when I was overseas doing my undergrad, not to mention its an awesome way to find out what's going on w/ my friends w/o having to buy a phone-card or be engaged in a lengthy dialogue that I may not have the time for.
Unlike myspace, I have never had a fake friend request...
IMHO, if you are gonna do the whole facebook/myspace thing, facebook is way better.
Only downside is I can waste too much time on it!

MySpace is sexier looking but really hogs memory in my computer. It also attracts spammers. Facebook seems to be more secure. Also Facebook has Zimster on it which is always entertaining!

I got an email on myspace from some girl who was "moving to my city for work". NO ONE moves to my small < 400 person town for work. Especially not a twenty-something female. I reported the email as spam/abuse. I got a response from her that read "abuse?!" Regardless, no young females have moved here, so I stand by my action.

The only time I really get these is from shitty bands on myspace who have seen me on the website of good bands that are in the same general genre that they are.

seriously; if you've got to say "Hey check out our music and be our friend! Come to our shows please!" your music probably isn't that great.

(although I did discover Bag of Toys off of the Jack Johnson page this way. They did that zune commercial ((Fig. 1)))

I'm on Facebook and MySpace and I prefer MySpace because it lets you be more creative with HTML code. MySpace does get more spam than Facebook but still I feel far more comfortable with it than with Facebook.
