    You are a prize.
    And, that voice.
    Wonderful.

    Loved your video.

I always tell people who think they're ugly, to go outside and walk down the street, and notice how many truly ugly people you see. That should make you feel better about yourself, really fast.

And, ugliness, just like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

    Yes and no. icon_wink.gif

But seriously, he says we're often vicious, vile and discriminatory toward each other. I don't get that, but then I mostly hang out with friends. Straight people don't hang out in bars and clubs and make the mistake of thinking that they're surrounding themselves with an entire community. Find your friends and cherish them. And make sure you're a giver as well as a taker, or you'll find that people aren't there for you when you most need them. That's my take.

    Hugs to all.

True mate.. we are perceived as such though, and we do seem to have a culture for finding the bitchy, judgemental commentary humorous though, particularly where it's been developed as a defense mechanism by the femme amongst us - it can be brutal.

Some old wisdom from my Gran, the best way to make freinds is to be a friend..

Just smiling and being polite in strangers company, looking like you're having a good time, not getting cranky in queues at the bar etc .. all can help..

Opening or holding the door for others are all small gestures that go a long way to forming an impression about you..

I've never felt that I was popular, nor attractive in the traditional sense.. but I do know that I have done my damndest not to give anyone a reason to dislike me..

That's why I try to have a nice personality (at least I think it's nice as I've been told just a few times) ;P

Do you see how people talk to each other in the forums? It sucks! icon_mad.gif People can be needlessly rude and mean, especially if you're "asian, black, fat, fem, twinky, hairy, skinny, queeny, old, young," etc.

This was a very meaningful video. Like 'It gets better" with a wise message about self acceptance.

Great video, pretty sad, but realistic. Glad I don't have some of those views about myself, but I think some of what he says about the gay community is right on target.

this is a play off of "if you can't love yourself how are you going to love someone else"

If we cant grow to accept our own community how the hell do we expect other communities to accept us?

I heard that a while ago from a friend and if you really think about it, it holds true.

I'm gay, I'm ugly I don't spend many nights alone. That's one of the benefits of being gay

I can't believe that that guy still thinks he's ugly or not attractive. He must be generalizing to get his point across.
Like Webster said- awesome voice too.

There are so many bitchy superficial assholes out there from all walks of life both physically blessed & not so physically blessed. It's like being in the movie Heathers. Soon as they open their mouths & find out how katty, petty & trivial they are I run the other way. These are the same bitches who see themselves as compassionate & all-inclusive when they're anything but; who preach the golden rule but don't abide by it. No tolerance for superficial assholes. Only make friends & surround myself w good-hearted souls.

You do mean "people can be needlessly rude and mean towards asian, black, fat, fem, twinky, hairy... etc", don't you?

Regarding sc69's comment, much of the divisiveness and vitriol directed at other gay people come from the "straight actors" or men who feel the need to put others down to feel masculine. At least femme guys are usually witty with their bitchiness.

And where's that community the guy in the video is talking about? I certainly haven't felt its presence or influence, or seen any evidence of its existence. I want to believe. Show yourself!

I agree that people should be compassionate and not give up on love, but I don't buy into those stereotypes about the community. I see our community celebrating diversity, including people of all different ages and body types. I worry he's perpetuating a common, but misguided fear. When you look at gay characters on shows like Modern Family, or politicians like Barney Frank, you realize it's just not the way it is in the larger picture. Low self esteem is something everyone deals with from time to time, regardless of what they look like or if they're gay. Also even "bitchy" gay boys have their nicer sides. They are just acting immature. It sucks to feel ugly, and it's horrible to be bullied, but it's just not true or justified to say a few gay bullies represent the whole community.

When the video first started, I judged the guy's attractiveness to be about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. But by the time it got half way through, his attractiveness grew by several points.

Too bad the trolls on RJ can't comprehend how that works.
