A Map of the Planet's Most Visited Websites by Country

A website-visualization firm Webempires has created this map showing the number-one websites around the world, as calculated by traffic-tracking company Alexa. As the picture makes clear, Google dominates, with Facebook trailing not too far behind. Of course, saying that Google and Facebook dominate around the world is a lot like saying trees and grasses are the dominant plant. Google is a search portal; where it brings you depends on what you put in. Facebook's content is the work of your friends and family, the very opposite of a monolith that would look the same regardless who logged in. And that's what's most interesting about the map down: The homogeneity masks the diversity; the top websites are the places we make our own.

Yandex is a crappy search engine to search anything in Russian. I find it limited anyway. Better off using Google Russia or Rambler.ru. However, many of the other features on Yandex are quite awesome and different from Google.

I have moved on from Google. They have some "double-click" cookie that was diverting me from websites I wanted to go to.

I use Firefox and Bing and dont have any problems now.

Sounds like you have malware on your computer.

JackBlair69 saidCuba, North Korea, and Venezuela are labelled as "unknown."

    What a bunch of shit.

Actually both Koreas are unknown, as is much of SE Asia and most of Africa. What is your point?

This map/info is kinda meaningless. From my previous experience in end user support, most people don't know the difference between the URL box and the search box. So rather than enter realjock.com and go directly to the site, they search for realjock.com and then click on the search result. Really strange stuff.
