I think the age difference between the men made the coach more nervous than anything. The 18 > 65 factor for a small college football program feels too close to the Sandusky scandal for a less sophisticated program to know how tonhandle it. I think a whole bunch of old guys panicked here and fucked up.
I doubt there's as much concern about him being gay as there is over the potential PR and internal team termoil that it posed for the coach.
I do think the young man is correct that being gay vs being straight played a role in the dismissal, and the lying was a technical way out for the coach. I highly doubt the coach was either well trained or guided sufficiently to handle the situation differently.
The failure (assumed here) of the 'boyfriend' to speak up or come out to press here shows a lack of courage and integrity, and saddens me as he has left this young man on his own to deal with a very traumatizing situation he's not genuinely mature enough to manage alone.
But, What strikes me as the most troublesome of all in this story is the older men's failures (coach, boyfriend, college president) to model anything good for the young man at the center of this, and it shows lack of character on all their parts.
Maturity (should) carry with it responsibility to act in a fashion that sets example for younger or less experienced individuals. Coaching itself implies the ability to lead by example and build consensus among a team (be it men or women). It might be argued that his teammates failed to rally here as well, but I'm less inclined to blame them when nobody is modeling true integrity and camaraderie for them.

Was the kiss on the team cam? If it was then it's probably legitimate reason, I've been in trouble for talking about x rated stuff behind the cam that comes up in the video session . Awkward times I'll tell ya haha

Yeah this comment is cracking me up. Gramps got game! That kind of age gap isn't to my taste at all.. . icon_razz.gif But It's none of my business, either. I don't have to date my Grandpa.

As for as the Coach is concerned, he's lying his ass off! Shame on him. He's only kicking the kid out to keep his own players quiet, and this time it back fired on him. Now he's in the spotlight and trying to use a rule that was probably intended for a situation entirely separate from this, to save his ass.

And now: A Situation That's Never Happened, Ever.

Coach: "Billy, Is this your sock?"
Billy: "No, Coach. I don't think it is."
Coach: "Liar! I saw it fall out of your bag yesterday. You're off the team!"

This has been: A Situation That's Never Happened, Ever.

    Thank you.

I guess the case should go to Protecting Old Men's Interest Department rather than Protection Gay Dude's Urge to Play Against Kids Department. You guys crazy to link it this way. What would you have done if you were the coach? Let him in because you can't hurt a gay guy, even if he is 65 and wants to play against newbie? If anything the 65 guy was saved the trouble of broken limbs...
