Help! I'm stuck at home in the midst of this frickin' Hurricane

The high winds are banging against my bedroom windows like a banshee bashing its brains in. The electricity keeps going on and off. Phone and internet service are intermittent. I obviously can't go outside. Work is shut down for the day. So I've been in the house furiously alternating between re-organizing my home office and working out. I'm already up to 350 pushups and 140 pullups. Someone, please. . . TALK TO ME

What hurricane?

When Fay was over me, it was a lot stronger and the wind wasn't nearly as bad as you're saying it is up there. Have you been through a tropical storm before? Hurricanes are WAY worse as far as the wind goes. Fay's got TONS of rain though which really sucks for flooding.

Cleaning is good. Organizing, working out. Reading. I'm assuming your power isn't out for good since you can post. Do the things you normally don't have time to do because you're busy doing more important things. I always enjoy times stuck indoors every once in a while.

Just hope your power doesn't go out for long periods of time. Then it really sucks unless you have a lot of friends around. Our power was out for TWO WEEKS after Wilma in 2005. It was "fun" for a week, but then it started getting really annoying. Plus, without power, we couldn't even get gas, cash, drive (traffic lights were mostly all gone), shop (no registers), go out to eat, etc...

You need an update, halltd

You got off easy

All schools and businesses in this area are CLOSED today and probably tomorrow

The winds are increasing -- it's a slow moving storm that has regathered strength

Some of the flooding is at record levels and the Governor calls it "catastrophic"

Yes, I am sure we'll all survive, but it's more than an afternoon thundershower

Electricity, TV, computer, phone are intermittent

I'm stuck here at the house

I'm tired of watching DVDs

I'm up to 450 pushups and 200 pullups

We had the same winds as you, so I don't think we got off easy. The worst of it down here was overnight on Monday. So, everyone slept through most of it. But, my power went out like 5 times (I have a UPS on electronic equipment which beeps annoyingly when the power goes out), we got really bad winds, driving rain, downed trees, palm frawns littering the road, etc...

I do think you're getting more rain and flooding because it's sorta camping out up there which really sucks. But, I'd be happy you're not in an actual hurricane. THOSE suck.

Hopefully the flooding subsides and Fay leaves soon though.

hey now. not everyone is party to that fuckup.

halltd and i are in the same town. while we got "awful winds and awful rains" that flooded everything and ripped buildings apart, i didn't think all that much of it. power went out several dozen times and stayed out many times. i've got a laptop w/ a cellular card, i've got a generator, and i've got plenty of projects around the house i can work on so i was plenty comfy.

this storm really isn't all that intense.

You know what I find interesting? My post are hopped over as if they/I didn't exist? These seems to be teh theme in most forums where I try to engage people in conversation. Wtf? Am I not part of the clique? Or is it more that I don't fit the physical requirements?

It's my own fault for coming back to this sight. I see nothing has changed.

Littledude... This is nothing! It's only a Tropical Storm. I used to cover these things for a living. Fay is a whimpy, crying bitch. Sure, she's got a lot of bluster... but Florida has been through much worse.

Don't you remember the three hurricanes in a row in 2004? Charlie, Francis and Jeanne.

I'm in O-town and it's now been raining for nearly 3 days straight. The winds aren't bad. I, too, am stuck in teh house. The dog hates it. The pool has overflowed more times than I can count. The sump-pump in the landscaping is going non-stop and I have no idea where all the water is going (maybe, the neighbors?) And... to beat it all... I just lost about 300 dollars worth of screen over my pool. It was the only strip that wasn't damaged during the '04 hurricanes. I'm surprised... the power has only flickered a few times. We are still under a tropical wind warming hear too. Right now the winds are blowing at 41mph sustained according to the weather channel.

Don't get down... your arms, chest and back will look awesome later. Pull out the camera... we want to see you all pumped from all of the push=ups and pull=ups.

If I wasn't feeling under the weather... IF'in allergies and Fay)I think I'd join you in this push-up and pull-up marathon. I usually only do about 200 push-ups/100 pull-ups during an hour workout. Maybe I could pump up too.

all you can do is ride it out read a book if you got light
surf the web if you got power

Out here on the coast the winds're calm and the rain's pretty much done, but everything is flooded. Considering a makeshift snorkel for my Fronty. So far, though, we haven't come up to a puddle we couldn't make it through... saw some little cars that haven't been as lucky, though.

For a little truck, mine's getting em around just fine.

Cops are out everywhere, though... wonder if they're looking for people coming back from would-be hurricane parties...

From the pic in your profile... looks like you have plenty of underwater experience. You're an old pro! I think I heard the cops/deputies were out in Brevard Co. because there is a curfew in most areas because of the severe flooding and state of emergency. Be careful bud.

LOL. I lived in Florida for just over a year and I saw Ivan, Arlene, Dennis, Katrina, and Wilma. Call me when the electricity goes out for weeks and there isn't a gas station with gas available withing 100 miles. Thanks but I'll take my chances with the earthquakes for now.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for the nice comments and remarks. Appreciate it. My computer + TV actually went out for a while last night. But no big deal. Nothing bad happened. Just tons and tons of rain.

This morning, things actually appeared to be somewhat better, at least here at the beach, so I decided to head out to the studio. Then I got a call that we're closed for a second day! Seems all the bridges into town are out. Doesn't look like we're done yet.

LDWM...
thanx for the update from JAX.
Any more push-ups today?

I just took the pup out for another drenching walk! He won't even put-up with it for more than a few minutes. This is getting old!

I am hopeful, though, after nearly 4 days of non-stop downpours. It looks like the clouds are parting in the distance. The rain will soon abate and the sun will shine again! (ugh... that's like a line from some overly dramatic hollywood disaster flick.)

stay dry boys.

Glad you're still o.k. Keep up the push ups, pull ups and crunches too!

I was snowed in at my house near Squaw Valley for four days once. No electric, no water, no heat - just firewood. We heated up canned food in the fireplace, and melted snow for water. No bathing. Couldn't use toilets. Driveway was impassible, cars buried so you could barely see them. Had three guests. It was a drag for everybody - you couldn't shovel out, nobody could even leave! Finally we got shovels and for two days we worked to get a car out. I was never so happy to take a shower!

Glad you're staying in shape and you don't have house guests to worry about!

Hey guys, thanks again for the nice comments. Today was a lot like yesterday, except less wind and more rain. I haven't had any problems, though they just issued a tornado warning for the general area a few minutes ago. Local TV has been broadcasting without let-up. I've seen video of giant oak trees, uprooted -- partly by the wind, partly because all the rain weakens the tree's roots and bam! The tree falls over. My electricity has been out a few times. Ditto for computer and cable.

Our studio remained closed for the second day in a row. I was actually on my way to work when they called and said forget it, they'd shut down all the bridges. My gym was closed too.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be a lot better.

I did a DVD double feature last night. Watched "Gods and Monsters" -- very fine film. Then "Sicko," Michael Moore's documentary on health care. Again, very good.
