Gays and marriage in the XX century

    This is for those of you who remember the last century (since I remember only a bit from 1996, and then 1997 and onward.)
    What was the attitude of gay men towards marriage? Was it on the radar? Was it seen as something outdated and unnecessary? Were there people who wanted it?

    Some of us actually want to know that we belong to our partners also gay marriage was in america before the European settlers even arrived.

    Really? Native Americans used to have gay marriage? I would love to hear more, since I've never heard anything like this. Care to elaborate?

    I did some research on this after a facebook status last night. It did exist, however it appears to be the exception to the rule.
