Why was Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, outside topless?

I'm seeing reports of the French magazine publishing these photos taken while she was on some family member's estate in southern France. But why was she outside topless in the first place? Is this common (no pun intended) for women to do?

    It was hot out?

She knew Harry was on his way over?

She wanted there to be no doubt that she is bustier then Diana ever was?

It was private property, and in Europe (on the continent) women often go topless on the beaches.

Leave the Royal family alone. If someone followed me around with a camera on my holiday there would be less than flattering photographs. Let them have their holiday time like everyone else.

Meh. People need to get over it. I don't think it's unusual over there.

No! Royals need to live up to a certain standard, or have their royal tenenbaums stricken from them!

It's only titillating because it's still taboo in a lot of places. I mean it's a half-naked woman. Why would anyone care about that?

I would have thought that very thing....and in France of all places. But apparently it is.

I don't know what that movie was about... but tenenbaums are furs. So I'd imagine the implication meant their robes. Damn, Suga... why don't you know this?

Exactly JR_RJ - if you want to enjoy the privileges bestowed upon you then you must act accordingly. QEII would never partake in the types of behaviour the younger royal generations seem to be quite happy to do all the while at the cost of the British taxpayer.

Yep, someone has to carry the burden of being the hierarchal social superior. Your Prince, can't be your Pauper, unless he was never a Prince to begin with! If he never wants to live up to the expectations of his role, than he should be given a new one more befitting his actions. Say... the Royal Lackey.

    1) this family members estate was private, therefor any pictures are totally invasive, she should be able too do what she feels fit on a private beach.

    2) she is human and deserves an all round tan, regardless of her marital status

    3) does it matter? like really? what is wrong with it? i mean for real?

    4) i'm sure William loved it.

    5) men can walk around topless, why is it wrong as soon as a woman takes hers of, i mean... its only skin, and we all have nipples, its just like fat man only sexy and skinny if you get what i mean?

.... seriously, as soon as its the royal family, everything they do is wrong, they are great people, and they deserve to be treated as just that, great PEOPLE.

i just have so much respect for them

You realise that British taxpayers don't really fund much of it at all, the Royal Family pays their way with the private monies they earn through whatever they do. My issue is that I think leaders should be elected, not chosen through divine right, and the Queen would agree with me there. Keep in mind the younger generations did not choose to be born into the Royal Family. And Prince Harry served in war and partied hard to release some stress. Whats wrong with a solider being able to have some leave time? And Prince Harry is a solider before he is the prince.

you fail too understand, the royal family is the biggest asset the UK has, it brings in more tourism, and therefore more money to the country than anything/one else. people have this perception that the tax payers, pay for them? for real? get a fucking grip and assess your life, they keep this country running, and if that means getting topless and acting provocatively, i say let them do it....
