Past experience has taught me that I need to switch up my workout routine from summer's hiking and biking to prepare my body for the way its muscles will be exerted in downhill skiing and allow for some great times on the slopes from day one.

Does anyone have any suggestions or routines they use so the first few trips of the season aren't such a major adjustment? The gym I belong to has a decent selection of free weights, weight machines and cardio equipment. The problem is I'm just not sure what exercises will be of specific benefit in preparing me for the upcoming season.

Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.

I do thr same thing as snowboarding season approaches. I hit the stair master harder for my cardio. I also like to sit With my back against a wall and let my ass hang free while my legs are bent at a 90 degree angle. I'll hold for 30 seconds them lift one leg straight out and hold that for 15 and them switch to thr other leg. Repeat 3 times.

    SQUATS, SQUATS, and more SQUATS!!!

Not only is it a great core workout but it builds up the quads which are used heavily in skiing. I really focus on my core muscles and balance too. I was off skis for a few years and did this before my first trip back to the slopes. I felt better on my ski's on that trip than the last time where I was going every other weekend.
