I bet the Aussies will still be OK with the swimming medals

    AUS: 20
    GBR: 6

    And, for the record:

    USA: 31

Lol, who cares. People put too much thought into the medals. Everyone competes to their best ability and should be rewarded for it. Not laughed at. I'd like to see you go out there and try to compete with them.

I'm yet to fully grasp how the individual athletic prowess somehow transmutes into nationalism.

Like the athletes who are good at what they do could actually BE from anywhere, it's just coincidental that they represent the countries that they happen to represent.

Mostly it's strange to see other countries behave with the same jingoistic fervor that is usually the stereotype of loud Americans shouting "USA! USA!"

Geez. Can't we all just get along?

I would hate to think that any Aussie athletes or supporters are feeling sorry for themselves. Yes team GB has come higher in the medals table, however since the UK got the Olympic nod to host the games, almost half a billion £'s has been invested into the team. That's where results come from..

Look back to the 2000 Olympics and the Australians results compared to past games....

It all swings in round abouts truthfully... Bring on 2012... Who do I support, my native Australia or my adopted home country of GB?????

Wow. This thread just demonstrates the bankruptcy of nationalism.

Shame on all of you who are dumb enough to buy into it.

The Queensland sports minister has announced that the funding for the our state's peak swimming body - Swimming Queensland - has been slashed by half over the next six years...

That's the best news I've heard all olympics. Too much government funding is diverted to sports in Australia - all for for the joy of winning a shinny piece of neck jewelery.
