I read this article awhile back, I was wondering if anyone had seen any more recent studies....

Basically it concludes that a compound in apples and other plants help to prevent muscle breakdown. Its interesting, as its not really normal for our bodies to retain a large amount of muscle- we are programmed to store calories in the form of fat.

I love apples anyhow. Tend to be my dessert or snack. I hope it is true. I need an excuse to eat more apples.

MMTM, drink more water? Water and the fiber from the apples, amongst other things, should keep you all happy in the tummy.

I love apples, but it is really hard to get good ones in the grocery. Long storage and forced ripening and all that stuff is not good for produce.

I dunno about all you west coast and southern people but the east coast has some killer apples this time of year. Used to live right by an orchid honeycrisps for daysssss. Best time of the year in my opinion. icon_biggrin.gif

I like apples too. I also heard a good way to prevent them from browning (if you cut them) is to brush them with lemon juice-I've never tried it though.

So what do you all like-red, yellow, or green? I tend to like the green ones!!! Although I heard they are mainly for baking.

I am from Washington State, and thus the West Coast (duh, lol), and am proud to say that Apples are the largest agricultural product grown/produced here in the state.

***More than half of all apples grown in the United States for fresh eating come from orchards in Washington State!***

I grew up in the rolling hills of the Palouse wheat fields and am also proud to say that Whitman County (the county I grew up in), is the largest producer of wheat in the nation!!!

***In the rolling Palouse country of southeast Washington, Whitman County has consistently been the No. 1 wheat-producing county in the United States every year since 1978!***

GO WASHINGTON STATE and its agriculture for helping feed the world!!! I love this state!!

Like apples a lot, too. But sometimes I have an allergic reaction to them. Just sneezing, sometimes several times, but nothing dramatic.
