I guess that's one advantage of having grown up and staying a social outcast who never went to parties or was ever exposed to any drugs! I haven't' the faintest clue what any of these substances are.

Marijuana is bad too. Do a scholarly search, and you'll find you shouldn't be touching it either--but just as bad as alcohol, tobacco, and anabolic steroids...all highly increase cancer risk.

i don't touch anything myself, but i thought that uses of marijuana other than smoking it don't carry the risk of cancer

Perhaps, I don't know about if you bake it or eat it...Obviously smoking anything is bad for your lungs and circulatory system.

I always feel so dumb when people talk about these drugs because I never know their common or slang names and often have no idea what they do!

Because being addicted to a mind altering substance can't possibly have any ill effects if you eat it, right?

It's more addictive than ecstasy, apparently. Even has withdrawal symptoms.

You guys can pretend marijuana is a clean, safe substance. But like all drugs of any kind, legal or not, there are hazards to its use, some of which are significant.

Cannabis dependance is even a DSM-IV verified condition.

Marijuana is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when it is taken by mouth or smoked. It is classified as an illegal substance.

Use of marijuana can cause dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, dry or red eyes, heart and blood pressure problems, lung problems, impaired mental functioning, headache, dizziness, numbness, panic reactions, hallucinations, flashbacks, depression, and sexual problems.
    Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Marijuana is UNSAFE when taken by mouth or smoked during pregnancy. Marijuana passes through the placenta and can slow the growth of the fetus. Marijuana use during pregnancy is also associated with childhood leukemia. Using marijuana, either by mouth or by inhalation is LIKELY UNSAFE during breast-feeding. The dronabinol (THC) in marijuana passes into breast milk.

Heart disease: Marijuana might cause rapid heartbeat and short-term high blood pressure.

A weakened immune system: Cannabinoids in marijuana can weaken the immune system, which might make it more difficult for the body to fight infections.

Lung diseases: Long-term use of marijuana can make lung problems worse. Regular, long-term marijuana use has been associated with several cases of an unusual type of emphysema, a lung disease.

Seizure disorders: Marijuana might make seizure disorders worse in some people; in other people it might help to control seizures.

Surgery: Marijuana affects the central nervous system. It might slow the central nervous system too much when combined with anesthesia and other medications during and after surgery. Stop using marijuana at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.

I can do this all day. It raises testicular cancer and other reproductive/endocrine cancer risks by 50%

There are tons of modern studies that rank it up there with alcohol for impairment, and verify it does have addictive potential and negative side effects. Seriously people, how do you not know this?

I personally have nothing against pot. But I can't help but lol when people claim breathing in the byproducts of combustion are harmless. Your lungs weren't meant to be smoke filters. Our livers werent meant to be alcohol filters either. Choose your poison but don't be a naive fool about it.

How did we get on the subject of pot when it was supposed to be about methadone?

Whether its physically addictive is still out, but just about anything can be psychologically addictive. I've also known patients who chronically use it to have anxiety disorders when they come off it (actually, when they try to come off it.) Whether or not they had them before is anyone's guess, but my brother did not and now he does.

Caffeine is the only substance that I use and abuse, which means I'm pretty clueless about everything else.

But hey, I just learned about another drug. I'll be on the lookout!

I guess having been in professional; sports all my life, I've always felt repulsion for taking any drugs that can damage the body, or to pouring any unnecessary chemicals into what is after all, a delicate and finely balanced mechanism.

Ditto for performance enhancing drugs, which are nothing more than tools to help someone steal a win.
