Normally I sleep like a baby, all perfect and no night terrors or anything. Last night apparently, my roommate had to calm me down after having a night terror about spiders... including the really loud screaming(voice is still hoarse) The issue is I am not afraid of spiders and I have no idea what brought it on- HELP!

There are very few qualified on this site to assist you. I'd recommend you go and see a doctor who specializes in somnology, or someone along that speciality.

However, sometimes people who have been under a large amount of stress can have bad sleep like you had.

It could be something you ate before going to sleep. I was like you, never had nightmares or anything like that at all. Then I had a real terror, and like you woke up screaming etc. I finally narrowed it down to a reaction to mono sodium glutamate. If I eat decent amount, like Chinese food or packaged foods within 3 hours or so of going to sleep, I will have nightmares.

could be an isolated event. don't obsess about it or let it upset you unnecessarily. if it happens again, then I'd rethink what might be at the root of it. good luck and sleep well.

For the past two or three weeks I have been having crazy, violent dreams almost every night. Last night I dreamed about an elephant stomping a teenager to death.

    I feel so mature

Maybe see a sleep specialist or psychiatrist? But first I think you should make an appointment with your GP/family doctor. Ask what s/he suggests.

I know that when I take Melatonin to get sleep, I run the risk of having very lucid dreams. I only take it when I have to.

J.....don't sweat it. bud. It's not something that happens every night...but if it does, ya might wanna consider whether or not you might actually be afraid of spiders. Your dreams are windows to your subconscious mind...and maybe, down deep, you really ARE afraid of those nasty bastards. I sure am....icon_surprised.gif
