. . . in about a year. Something I've been considering for a long time.

Any thoughts or advice? I'd like to live in the city.

I'm especially interested if you live there now (or have lived there)!

If finances and/or housing aren't issues you should disclose that up front or most of the replies will probably be related to how expensive it is to live here. If they are you should perhaps relay your budget so people can better answer your question. It might also be helpful if you include information on career aspirations/prospects, hobbies and interests, cultural and otherwise.

But just to be clear, you do know that the tenements aren't as spacious and light-filled as they appear on "Law & Order," and just because everyone on "Smash" sleeps on a California King bed in an enormous bedroom - including the poor personal assistant in trendy Williamsburg - doesn't mean real New Yorkers do, right?

If money isn't an issue, and you can get a job over there go for it. I've never been, but sometimes life needs a good adventure. Just make sure you won't have financial problems later because of this decision.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I've been wanting to move to New York for awhile also. Very difficult if you live out of state since you need a job to live there, but can't get a job until you live there. Catch 22.
