Tomorrow I hit 59, what adventures should I aim to have before I hit 60?

I don't feel 59, but neither am I some old queen trying to look forever young, however I am running out of ideas of things to do to challenge myself. So, what would you do if you were in my position?

learn how to dance hip/hop style.

twerking, dropping it low, crip-walking, pop, lock, and dropping it, etc...

A long solo outdoor journey might be challenging, or perhaps take your partner/BF along. It's getting late for the northern hemisphere, but you would want to plan anyway, so do that over the winter for next summer. Or, consider Australia now. Part of the fun is seeing new places, and from a different perspective.

You list rowing as an interest, and you swim. Perhaps take a long kayaking trip of a month or more. Or a hiking or bicycle trip. It's why I've owned purpose-built touring bikes for the last 30 years, equipped with racks & panniers. Not sure if you motorcycle, but some of my cycle trips exceeded 8000k, riding for weeks all over the USA & Canada, tenting along the way. And done in my 50s.

Maybe compete in sports for seniors, either team or individual. I used to play tennis quite a bit, but since that's no longer possible I've taken up golf. Not terribly challenging physically for someone like you (it is for me), but learning & mastering a new sporting skill can be a different kind of challenge.

I love the idea of learning to dance hip hop, but finding a school with the cred to take me on is a bit difficult in the back water that is rural France. Love the idea though! icon_biggrin.gif

Also, spot on with the travelling, we are considering Aus and New Zealand for next year. Am coming to NYC and Philadelphia at the end of the week. I live in a town known for it's kayaking and other 'natural sports' I want to Paraglide next year (the thermals are a bit unpredictable this time of year) and am considering buying a motorbike to learn to ride.

Any more crazy ideas out there????

There is no way you're turning 59! You certainly don't look it.

I like the idea of learning some hip hop, but I say try some a bit of parkour/freerunning. It did originate in France after all.

My last challenge was a Tough Mudder event on Mt. Snow in Vermont, USA

I am now seeking another challenge and thinking about hiking the Appalachian Trail which runs up through the New England states (USA)

Start with some good AT day hikes. It is definitely a good season for it.

Doing the AT is a dream.

So glad you posted this! I did the ToughMudder in Tampa just turning 59 last December, however, this year, I just got a third shift job to help pay my daughter's college loans...hmmmmmmmm.

That said, though, I would love to learn to TANGO before, during, and after I turn 60 in October!

Congrats on making another number yours. The number is just that and nothing more. Remember to warm up prior to doing anything physical and STRETCH! I don't feel any different at 60 other than sometimes not recognizing the face in the mirror. Get even more used to the younger ones who can't relate to your references in life because they weren't even born when you were enjoying the experiences you look back on. Know that your life has been and will continue to be good, regardless. Heureux Anniversaire - Happy Birthday!

You're doing what I do every chance I get - finding a plane going somewhere I've never been or doing something different and enjoying every moment.

I'd post a thread hoping that someone will sex me before I'm "too old" for the gay world (ie. 60). icon_twisted.gif

Thankfully the BF provides all the loving sex I need, so not a motivating factor as far as I'm concerned.

I actually set myself a 10 year goal of moving to France, retiring early and getting pumped. Once I'd done that, and picked up a 36 year old bf on the way, I suddenly realised I didn't have any new goals to pursue.
