Voted "America's Favorite" twice (winning 25k each time), Jeff Schroeder seems to be every middle aged woman and gay man's favorite Big Brother player of all time. I've always found the guy unbearable due to his lack of intelligence (remember "technotronics"?) and his misogynistic attitude and borderline homophobic remarks.
He apparently stepped over the border line last year, however, and all evidence was swept under the rug by CBS to keep "America's Favorite" from getting the bad press he deserved.
Airing only on the live feeds from last summer's show, the cast was talking about Harry Potter and the fact that J.K. Rowling revealed headmaster Dumbledore was gay. Jeff Schroeder (who has never read the books ((or any books, likely)) or even seen the movies) said:
Jeff: That would be perverted.
Kalia: …have a gay character for kids to understand homosexuality…
Jeff: How was he meant to be gay? He doesn’t have any gay tendencies.
Kalia:…well maybe that’s the whole point, to teach you that…
Jeff: Hey Harry! Let me feel your balls. (Laughs)
Kalia: …for people like you who think that stereotypes around gay people!
Jeff: What do you mean “stereotypes around gay people?!?” He’s in a school with little kids! You don’t wanna make that guy gay!
Kalia: WHAT?!?!? WHY?!?!
Jeff: What do you mean why?
Kalia: Gay men can’t work with little kids?
Jeff: Um..I don’t think it’s very..I don’t think it’s the right thing to have a little kid’s book and have the headmaster that you’re locked away with in a magical land be gay. I don’t think that’s the write kind of writing to do.
Kalia: I don’t see why not.
Jeff: I can see your PC view of why not. But I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. (Kalia is still confused) OK listen. You know exactly what I’m saying Ok, don’t make it seem like you’re doing the right thing by saying that it’s not. You’re gonna let a storybook of where they go away to fantasy camp and its all little kids…without their parents and the guy is gay?
Kalia: …just because he’s gay doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with him…
Jeff: Get the fuck outta here.[/quote]

Someone watching the live feed captured a video of this conversation and made it available on YouTube, but the production company for the show had it removed. After getting out the house, Jeff was confronted with his remarks on Twitter, to which he responded by saying: "I don't care if what I believe offended people who watch the show. Call me homophobic or whatever you want, but 'those' people should not be around children."
CBS addressed the issue only in a press release giving the typical canned "contestants' views do not reflect those of CBS" however this doesn't fly with me because this was not his first time. Back in Big Brother 11 (when he first appeared) cast members say he yelled anti-gay slurs at one of the HouseGuests, which also never aired on CBS. Also, CBS LOVES this guy. Not only has he appeared on two seasons of the show, but also a season of The Amazing Race, he starred in a web series where he traveled around the world, and he was the cbs.com interviewer for all of the evicted HouseGuests this season. So they don't condone his consistently homophobic slurs... but they consistently ask him to appear on their programs and give him money?
TL;DR version: Jeff Schroeder keeps being homophobic and CBS just keeps giving him money.
