There is a proposal for establish a gay-centric school in Toronto. What do you think?

    http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1262226--queer-centric-high-school-to-be-focus-of-community-debate

Update: 3/10/2012: I just found out that a LGBT school concept is not that new. There is one success example of it in New York.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Milk_High_School

I still maintain that this type of school may promote more segregation than integration, but I just want to balance both sides of the argument.

Was hoping I would find a thread about this here.
I heard the news on the radio today while driving and the first thing I thought was 'why segregate when lbgt's are looking for equality???'

I can see where the idea came from and why it's being suggested, but....idk. An All homosexual school just doesn't sit right with me. It feels like running away to me, or hiding =/

I agreed with you. As of yesterday, the proposal has been postponed as more discussion is needed. I think it would be the better way of doing it is to create a safe environment in every school, rather than creating one school where LGBT students and staff can feel safe.

I mean this may sound horrible...but this is what popped in my head...all these LGBT kids in one area...some fanatic with a crazy idea..icon_confused.gif

Also I think its a horrible idea. Its showing kids they are different then straight kids. They need to be mixed with straight kids and teach both straight and LGBT youths that their not different!!!

Also how many kids are out in high school? Hell I didn't realize I was gay till I was 22...Before that I honest to God thought I was straight...

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen because of GAY DRAMA! I mean, regular teenage drama is intense enough.

I don't think it will help our cause to segregate us away from the general population.

It's just like a school for whites and colors, except this time the colors are volunteering for segregation.

    This is a stupid idea.

    Segregation...

Next I guess we should just make sure the gays don't use the same water fountain as the straight kids in the regular public schools.

But imagine the sexparties! Woo! And you know exactly where to go when you want to pick-up some jailbait.

It's not like we need an education anyway, we're all set anyway. Waiters, flower... shop... employees... random jobs in the film industry or president of the Apple corp.

    Reality-TV idea!

Also, yeah I agree, why do the gay community feel the need to segregate themselves with normal society? I don't get it.

It's even sadder to know that I know one gay guy who feels like homos are more superior than the heteros. Like seriously, we're all the same race, just different lifestyle and beliefs.

The alternative schools In Toronto have been offerin a lgbt school for over 15 yrs already as a safe space for those that needed it. I can't see the point of opening a gay centric school to everyone. Those specialty classes should be saved for college . The money should be spent to make every high school more gay friendly and tolerable. The person who came up with proposal is an idiot.
