    Doing work related business.

And as I was standing at the counter, waiting to be "serviced" by one of those oh-so knowledgeable staff members, I couldn't help but overhear a convo going on among the associates.

This chick was complaining to her co-workers how her boyfriend shakes his friends hands. Apparently, whenever the boyfriend has his "boys" come over to chill, they shake eachother's hands a particular way-- a very gay way apparently. She did not approve....

    in her words
"mah maaain be shakin his boys hands like dis" and motions her chubby little fingers in a way where her thumbs are thumbing around like a thumb-war....

"dat gay, dat gay, dat gay, i dun like gay shit like dat...come again" she said over and over and over again. As if her co-workers were deaf. So, i heard this and was thinking to myself how absolutely stupid this pea-brain sounds. Not the fact that her ghetto-english was clearly the only language she spoke, but the fact that she was expressing in a rather loud voice her disdain for gays. She goes on to say "i aint down wit the gay shit like dat"

I hate to say this, but it's people like her that should just be put down like an old dog. Like, just go fucking curl up and die somewhere u ignorant piece of useless shit. You bring nothing to the table, no skills, no know-how, no nothing. Drop fucking dead. Not to mention you're hugely overweight, you have zero customer-service skills... or social skills for that matter. You're maybe one step above a mongoloid... even ur face looks half-retarded, yet you're gonna let the entire store know what goes through your little fetal-alcohol syndrome brain. ...Cute.

Can we start a society where ignorant people are not allowed to take part in it? Like, no voting for them, no healthcare for them, no benefits whatsoever. And just make them the minions of the educated upper-class? they're just so stupid and it's annoying I even have to deal with such stupidity.

You typed, " I hate to say this, but it's people like her that should just be put down like an old dog. " --- At what point are we going to be tolerable of others beliefs no matter how they differ from ours ?

Another thing, why does what someone say bother you that much ? Sometimes you have to let stuff like that roll off your back. icon_lol.gif

Granted she could have been more professional at the workplace.

Nonononononono. We don't have to tolerate the intolerance. That doesn't mean we're intolerant.

I would have raised holy hell and if management wasn't on site to take care of it immediately sent a blistering letter to corporate headquarters.

At the point which their beliefs stop infringing on the rights of others. The problem with the whole "lets be tolerant of the bigots" argument is that only the bigots get to walk away from the disagreement with full rights and freedoms. When gays have the full rights and freedoms as the bigots, yeah, then all lets just agree to disagree and go home to our spouses and be happy. But no one should tolerate anybody who thinks they are less equal, less human, less free deservedly so.

Should the Jews have tolerated the beliefs of the Nazis? Should blacks have tolerated the views of the segregationists? Nonsense.

The OP should have said something to both her and her employer. Whining about it here doesn't accomplish much comparatively.

I agree with the latter paragraph but threatening someone's life by a belief they could have mistakenly exercised at the workplace with words is a bit extreme, don't you think ? Hence the word "Tolerable". I do not agree with where it was said. Very unprofessional.

It was hyperbole. A rhetorical device. He wasn't really threatening anyone, especially since he said it here, not there.

At the surface. Thoughts at times can become things. I don't personally know the Author, I'm answering on what was read.

Right, but when you have the power to exercise those beliefs & thoughts is where trouble comes in. Could Hitler have done what he did without his followers to exercise those beliefs ? Again, his thoughts of Jews is the same thought this Author is exercising here today in his post.. only difference is Hitler had followers to EXERCISE those beliefs. Again, we will not always agree or have the same thought processes..

Could the views of the segregationists have worked if blacks were more than half of the countries population ? There is power in numbers you know. The difference between the situations is this, you have a young lady who is probably heterosexual in fear of losing her boyfriend to a gay and she shared a thought on it. icon_lol.gif I disagree with where she voiced her opinion. But it's not like she said, " Gays should be dead or aren't deserving of the right to be humans like us heteros ".

In the end there is no truth only a collective lie majority agreed upon.

That's just how I read the OPs telling of his story. The description seems of someone being territorial, not homophobic.

Nope. People like her contribute to a national discourse which dehumanizes gays: that makes it easier for gay kids to be bullied to death, for people to vote to deny freedom and equality to same-sex couples, for gays to be bashed and beaten.

Actions begin as unchallenged thought. Hitler became Hitler because somebody somewhere in his early life refused to challenge an anti-Semitic thought, word, or deed. Things like the Holocaust do not just happen in a vacuum: they happen in an environment where unfettered hate is not forcefully pushed back.

Today this young lady might have gotten away with spreading hatred and fear of gays, tomorrow she, or her friends, or her future children or someone in her sphere of influence will be beating up a gay classmate or using the voting booth to discriminate.

Bigotry must be challenged, not tolerated.

OP, you should have talked to the manager and said that the employee's loud opinions were offensive to you, the customer, and that the person was reducing here own productivity as well as that of her coworkers who were trying to ignore her. It would be just fine to mention that not only the loud delivery but also the content of her harangue surely must transgress the company' s non-discrimination policies.

Isn't there a statement in the New Testament that "The poor ye have always with thee."

In this case I think it would be appropriate to tolerate the person, just not in the workplace or providing less than satisfactory service to you.

I remember when TI made a comment that he was eventually forced to take back concerning how gays can be a little too sensitive and if we can take a dick we can take a joke. i won't lie I actually found that to be funny

Sadly as ignorant as he comes off, he makes a point and this for any large community whether gay. black, latino, women W.E that it's counter productive to take a " if you have an opinion against us we're gonna shut you down mentality" because at the end of the day, no one wins and while good intentioned we probably look like we have huge chips on our shoulders.

So my point is. people will say offensive things. whether they believe they're being funny or offensive, but if you're black, white, gay female and proud of who you are......getting upset over trivial things like that gives them more power than they should have anywhos. her bf should be free to shake hands how he wants without judgement but it happens

it's not that im "complaining" to the people of RJ..... more just venting.
I mean at the end of the day, it's whatever...really not that big of a deal, it's just people lack of consideration or common courtesy is annoying... I mean, when I enter a place of business I dont expect to hear people's personal stories about their boyfriends and their gay handshakes

Shes's free to have any opinion she wants of gays, her boyfriend, gay hand-shakes, whatever..... but to voice it so loud and in public while at work? Just seems like something only a moron would do. . . I guess I'm a bit surprised that there are people so stupid out there, who actually have a job....and have to come in contact with the general public.. . and conduct themselves in the manner they do...

I wasn't going to go compain to the manager, because honestly I just wanted to scan some docs and email them and leave... I wasn't trying to make a fuss about it. I was in a rush, as I had other shit to do.... and im not here to chage people's minds about gays. Someone so ignorant as her would never even understand or have the capacity to think that deeply.. . she was borderline retarded....and im not saying that in mean derrogatory way....but fact of the matter is....she seriously was almost retarded. . lol or at least spoke and looked retarded. Can reason even be established with an individual like that? doubtful... and why waste my time? She will remain in her ignorance for years to come, as she will choose to do so...because quite honestly, she's just plain fucking stupid and does not possess the mental capacity to change. IMO. She comes from a depleted gene pool and that's not her fault. However, her opinioons should be kept to herself.... or be quelled. She does not deserve to have a voice......on anything.

    bye gurrrrl

And am I to assume your rant of name calling and demeaning her is any better? If you felt so strongly about her lack of social skills and her horrible customer service, shouldn't you have called her out on it? Considering you want to start this new population of social heirs... I agree but it should begin w/ integrity. Just sayin icon_smile.gif
