I was looking around at animal shelters listed in my area today looking to adopt and saw this. Verklempt. icon_cry.gif

My brother Bill loved dogs, all kinds. He had a soft spot in his heart for dogs that were neglected, abused, and just plain unwanted. In 2006 Bill was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He was understandably shaken by this news. Spending time alone during the day recuperating from surgery and chemotherapy, I suggested getting a dog to keep him company throughout the day. I thought it was an excellent idea. He would receive the companionship of a dog that needed him just as much. I went online and found Molly's Place. We were very happy to find that Molly's Place is a no kill shelter. I set a date to visit the shelter and we set out with high hopes. As soon as we walked into the main area of the shelter, we saw all of the dogs playing together and having a great time. It warmed our hearts. Bill had his eye on several dogs that would have been great companions.
However, there was a snag in our plan. Bill's landlord was hesitant to allow a dog in his townhouse. Seeing that his landlord was his stepson, we figured we could convince him that having a pet was going to be a positive experience. Months went by and a decision was not made. On my days off of work, I would ask Bill what he wanted to do and his answer was always the same, "Let's go see the puppies!" Off to Molly's Place we would go. On the way we often talked of his fears concerning his illness and bringing a dog into the situation. I assured him that if need be, I would add any dog he decided on to my family.
Bill had just been released for the hospital, after undergoing yet another surgery, and finally he got an answer from his stepson.....he had the go ahead to get a dog. Bill was so excited. Once he was feeling strong enough, on my next day off, we headed out to Molly's Place. Unfortunately, a complication from surgery forced us to turn back and head for the hospital. Bill never came home.
I decided that a donation in Bill's name to Molly's Place would be the most appropriate way to honor my brother's life here on earth. I know he would be pleased and I am very happy that there are loving, caring, people at Molly's that wanted the same things for the animals as my brother and I. A chance for a better life and the love and care that they so desperately need -- and deserve!
Thank you to all of the dedicated staff at Molly's Place for welcoming us to your shelter, for making my brother comfortable during his visits, and for doing all you do for animals entrusted to your care until their adoption.
    God Bless You!

No, it's not any relation to me. I saw this story on the site for Molly's Place in Mechanicsburg, Pa and I was a bit taken aback.
