I fail to see how the fact they are gay has anything to do with them getting meningitis and dying.

Unless it's cause they have HIV and meningitis AND died that suddenly it's about men who have sex with men.

All in all a pointless article that seems to just try and stir the pot rather then report factual informative news.

My dad's hetero step-child is dealing with this now. It's terrible. The poor guy's a mess. Dad's wife is in her high 70s and running back and forth between her kid with meningitis and her sister with dementia and keeping her home, making dad's meals: she gave herself two heart attacks this year.

I didn't realize meningitis was so contagious. Thanx for posting the article. Another great reason to practice as safe as you can sex and only kiss on the mouth the one you love.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meningitis
Bacterial and viral meningitis are contagious; however, neither are as contagious as the common cold or flu.[35] Both can be transmitted through droplets of respiratory secretions during close contact such as kissing, sneezing or coughing on someone, but cannot be spread by only breathing the air where a person with meningitis has been.[35] Viral meningitis is typically caused by Enteroviruses, and is most commonly spread through fecal contamination.[35] The risk of infection can be decreased by changing the behavior that lead to transmission.

I heard that it was most common in college dorms so I was thinking like "oh shit what happened to that frat sex thread?"

There are different kinds of meningitis, and some of them can be prevented with a vaccine. For some reason, the vaccine is only recommended for kids or college students, depending on the type. Meningitis isn't as contagious as some illnesses, but it can progress very quickly. You can go from starting to feel sick to being in a coma in 24 hours.

Doubt it. I'm pretty sure the gay guys are getting the viral/bacterial kind which is pretty easily spread, especially since most of those guys are +. The people who got the injections have the fungal kind which isn't contagious. That whole thing is really sad.

This has nothing to do with being gay, and everything to do with being HIV+.

"All four cases involve H.I.V.-infected men, who are at a higher risk of getting the infection and of dying from it than is the general population"

It typically turns up with college kids who live in dormitories.
