from The National Catholic Reporter, Sept 27

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA'S SUPPORT AMONG CATHOLIC VOTERS HAS SURGED SINCE JUNE, ACCORDING TO NEW PEW RESEARCH POLL, despite a summer that included the Catholic bishops' religious freedom campaign and the naming of Rep. Paul Ryan, a Catholic, as the GOP's vice-presidential candidate.

On June 17, Obama held a slight edge over Mitt Romney among Catholics (49 percent to 47 percent), according to the Pew Research Center. Since then, Obama has surged ahead, and now leads 54 percent to 39 percent, according to a Pew poll conducted Sept. 16. Among all registered voters, Obama leads Romney 51 percent to 42 percent, according to Pew. Obama and Romney are essentially tied among white Catholics, which some pollsters call the ultimate swing group.

But Obama's current even status among white Catholics now is an improvement over 2008, when McCain beat Obama among white Catholics by 52 - 47. Obama's total Catholic vote against McCain was where he is now: 54 percent. But Romney has only 39 percent compared with McCain's 45.

Rank and file Catholics don't want anyone messing with their birth control options. Also, Mormon.

    from the National Catholic Reporter:

"Liberal Catholics have chastised Ryan for using his Catholic faith to defend his GOP budget plan, which lowers taxes on the wealthy while cutting programs for the poor. "

Romney/Ryan's 'SCREW THE POOR' policies are NOT

consistent with the teachings of JESUS.

I think rank and file Catholics don't trust the American bishops anymore after it was revealed how bad they handled decades of priest sex abuse.

Since "the church" is weighing in on political opinion and directions for it's member; it's high time that the IRS tax deduction and local property tax exemtions for "the church" should be removed/eliminated/banned.

    I agree completely.
They have ZERO credibility on issues of morality, which people are finally figuring out.

Not likely to happen. Despite the LDS Church (Mormons) and US Catholic Church directly utilizing their resources to get Prop 8 passed in CA, their tax exempt status wasn't touched.
