Dunno if you guys have seen this...if you haven't it's pretty interesting to watch. It's an experiment done by ABC (I think) on the public's reaction on same-sex PDA
Very interesting. I would have loved to see the full episode. I cant believe they called the police on them for kissing in public. The guy in the cab is such a closet case I feel bad for him. There are some good people out there though. The woman in alabama was too cute as well as the mom and daughter from New Jersey.
ahaha, from the looks of it, men are more accepting of lesbians, and women are more accepting of gays. something to do with turn-ons? interesting video though, the results were pretty pleasant. =)
Thanks for that video. It was great to watch. As I've made mention of in the past the southeast portion of the US is full of hick-ish backwards folks. It was nice to see one woman that lived there that was sweet and nonjudgmental.
I believe men are turned on my attractive lesbians because he is fantasizing about being the center of attention for two females. And I also believe that homophobic heterosexual males are very insecure around gay men because they don't like being objectified by another man the way he himself objectifies a woman.
I think it has a lot to do with power. Growing up my friends (that are straight) took so much pride and pleasure objectifying females and subjugating them with these indulgent fantasies. As if to imply that woman existed solely as an object to be used for their pleasure. Men believe they are in charge. The key self deluding term is "believe." So when you have a man that thinks this way it makes perfect sense that he would find so much fault in a gay male. Because it actuality he's very insecure and automatically interprets that gay men are objectifying him. I believe this has a lot to do with it.
Kudos to that nice, nice woman, talking about learning that she "had her own mind" and that she could be accepting of differences despite a southern bible-belt upbringing. There's hope!
Wow, this was a great social experiment! Kudos to ABC and 20/20 for taking this on in a tactful and meaningful way. I was both disturbed (i.e., by the 911 calls and jeers from passers-by) and encouraged (i.e., by the women in NJ who wanted the guys to be their neighbors -- for the eye candy perks!).
I thought it was very effective and accurate at conveying the general attitude towards homosexuality, which is increasingly becoming one of acceptance.
I liked how they pointed out how the older generations are less accepting in general too - gives us hope for the future
Excellent vid. Loved the response from 911 when she said she wasn't aware they were doing any thing wrong. LOL
The very accepting lady in Alabama was funny because she actually seemed fascinated. She perched herself right across from them so she could have a front row seat. It was almost like she was at the zoo and had spotted that rare breed of animal during mating season.
I found the negative responses interesting. Either entitlement that some how someone had invaded their world and if that complaint didn't work then the ol God hates them and they will go to hell routine came up.
Whoever actually called the police now that was pathetic.
