It's really too bad the boy scouts have become such a reactionary organization. I gained a lot when I was one many years ago. They discriminate not only against gays , but also against boys that are not religious. There's all that "god" stuff. The anti-gay discrimination is partly because so many of the boy scout troops are now sponsored by churches. A very sorry state of affairs. And very ironic, since Baden Powell, the founder of the boy scouts (and the guy who is almost worshiped by the scout hierarchy) was undoubtedly gay himself.

Um, no. That's called discrimination, and that's actually, not allowed.

being an eagle scout is nerd/gay, They should let him in with the rest. Many men who spend their lives in the scouts are pedophiles, or at least have tendenciesicon_idea.gificon_idea.gif

You're right, it is discrimination, but in this case it is allowed. I don't like it anymore than anyone else, but a private organization has a right to control its membership, no matter how ridiculous their criteria. If these little child-men want to tack a "No Gays" sign outside their clubhouse, I'll call them idiots, but I can't take away their right to do so. The negative-publicity train has been running full-steam on the BSA, but ultimately they have to elect to change, not be forced to change.

It may seem like semantics, but "allowed" and "happens without repercussion for now" are two separate things. Discrimination is not allowed. And one by one, all those who do, fall in the end. Discrimination will not be allowed.

It is well known from long ago that the Scouts are openly and unapologetically hostile to homos. Unlike Chick-fil-A, the organization serves no public function and does not engage in commerce, and can thus discriminate as it sees fit. I question why would a parent allow his gay son to stay in an obviously homophobic organization. Did they really expect that their openly gay kid would be made Eagle Scout? After all, I fdon't expect to be Grand Dragon of the KKK.

Still, good luck to them as they try to change the anti-gay culture of the Boy Scouts. I appreciate the Scouts' appreciation of tradition, but in some cases being stuck in 1909 in NOT a good thing. All traditions are not created equal, but all people are, and it's appalling that some folks still don't get it.
