I think it depends how you look at the data. If you look only at raw averages, yes, gay men have quite a few more partners than heterosexual men and that supports the stereotype that gay men sleep around a lot. However, this average is inflated by a small number of gay men who have a huge number of partners (much higher than most heterosexual guys could ever dream of). If you look at percentiles instead, you see that most gay and straight guys have a pretty similar number of partners. It's only at the high end of the scale where you start to see a big difference emerge. The point is just that most
guys (regardless of sexuality) are getting about the same amount of action.
