Hey! Am leaving to the US in 3 weeks solo, so excited!!! Would be great to your feedback as I haven't been to any of these cities before except a short 2 day stint in Vegas last year. This is the list I've basically compiled from asking people on here and looking up the net!

    Los Angeles
    Oct 30 Tuesday - Nov 2nd Friday

    - Visit Hollywood / Chinese Theatre
    - Do a Casual Visit at Gold’s Gym
    - Visit Venice Beach & Santa Monica
    - Dinner in Chinatown/Korea Town
    - Check out the gay scene in West Hollywood – anyone know of any good bars or clubs mid week? I have heard of the Abbey?
    - Attend the 2012 West Hollywood Halloween Street Party & Carnival on the Wednesday Night!
    - Shopping for Abercrombie & Fitch Clothes

    Las Vegas
    Nov 2nd Fri - Nov 6th Tues

    - Go to Krave Nightclub
    - Go to Piranha Nightclub
    - Go Shopping
    - Maybe see Absinthe at Caesar’s Palace
    - I’m thinking at this stage it’s gonna be more of a clubbing/partying weekend than anything but if there’s a chill option for a Sunday or Monday that would be awesome?

    Miami
Nov 6th Tues - Nov 9th Thu & one more night on Nov 11th

    - Twist Nightclub
    - Chill at South Beach – including a stopover at the Gay Beach on 12th street and ocean drive
    - Any other ideas?

    Cancun
    Nov 9th & 10th Fri & Sat

    - Day trip to Playa Del Carmen & Maya Rivera
    - Relax on the beach
    - Any other ideas?

I’m hoping to be as flexible as I can, I like to go with the flow when I travel but it’s always good to have some key sites/activities in mind. Thanks icon_smile.gif

If anyone else has any other tips on how to save eg taking trains from the main airport to downtown as opposed to cabbing it that would be great. I do think it might be better just to cab it in Vegas though right?

Also if anyone know's any cheap day passes for gym's in these cities that'd be great!

There is a new metro station at the Miami Airport that will take you to downtown Miami. Not sure of the cost but it will surely be less then taking a cab. It doesn't go to Miami Beach/South Beach which is the big tourist section so I don't know if that is an issue.

Where are you staying in Miami? Miami Beach is another city from Miami Beach, as Art will point out. But they are often interchangeable, and only a short 5 minute ride over a bridge, so it really is no big deal. Most of the gay nightlife will be in South Beach and there is more clubs to go to than just Twist. Most of the restaurants, shopping and nightlife gay or straight is also in South Beach. If you have a hotel there, there should be no problem for you to just stumble home after a night out.

If you are in Miami it might be nice to try and see the Everglades which is just outside the city.

Sadly/stupidly, there's no rail station at LAX. You can check out the LA Metro website. You're better off renting car because taking a cab to all those places you listed will cost a lot more than renting. As for WeHo Halloween, plan ahead. Traffic will be nuts and parking will be non-existent. It seems the event has attracted a lot of straight people. So it's gotten way too crowded over the years. Some people even bring their kids. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm staying at Motel Blu, 7700 Biscayne Blvd. So cheap that's why I did it. I google mapped it, it seems close like a 16 minute cab right to South Beach. Would there be any main attractions to check out in downtown Miami?

    Los Angeles

-squeeze in Griffith observatory or Getty Center (both stunning places with entire LA view)
-The Grove has a multiple storied A&F store with real models walking around if you want the A&F experience. However, for shopping I'd prefer Bev Center in Beverly Hills since there's more options (get the bev experience). Santa Monica Promenade is good too. shop shops hop USD is sooo cheap compared to AUD!
-Are you squeezing in lil Tokyo with K town and china town? (most chinese places are in the san gabriel valley anyway...) Korean BBQ it!
-West Hollywood- you can bar hop the entire street from Abbey to whatever the last place is. do them all!!!
-remember to get a double double at In and Out (burger joint)

    Las Vegas
-you should see Le Reve at the Wynn. I think you shouldnt go to vegas without seeing a show. thats the best show (for me)
-i think you should squeeze in a "straight" setting lounge/nightclub into the schedule. i would do XS at the Encore

The Super 8 is connected to a little casino called Ellis Island. It's kind of a dive, but the food's good. I work down the street from there at the Wyndham Grand Desert resort. It's a timeshare. The Wyndham corporation also owns the Super 8 brand. Who doesn't like trivial info like that, eh? LOL

zeffery is right. Le Reve is THE BEST show in town.

A cab from the airport to your motel should not cost you more than $15.00. Tell the driver to take Swenson to Harmon to Koval and don't accept any advice from the driver! The cab drivers are generally theiving SOB's here, I'm sorry to say. Some are really cool, but most aren't.

Good luck, safe travels, and have fun!

Just remember, what happens in Vegas 1) Goes on FaceBook in 20 minutes; 2) stays on your arrest record; and 3) stays on your medical history. LOL

For sure, Krave is great! We might go to Marquee too. I'm going with a mixed crowd, but am definitely doing Gay Vegas a couple of the nights I'm there. You solo, or with friends?

@booboolv Thanks for the advice. I will be sure to be firm with the taxi drivers. Just a random question, how much is tipping again? Is it 10-15%, I'm from Australia, so not fully familiar with the concept.

@bpguru I am going to Vegas solo but a girlfriend from San Fran is most likely coming down so we shall hit a straight event one night I reckon. If you see me out at Krave, say hello! icon_smile.gif

Tipping is entirely optional, but you are correct with 10-15%. I find it easier to estimate the tip and round up to the next appropriate dollar figure. I don't work in a tipped position now, but I have in the past. There are many people who work for a very low wage and depend on tips for their survival. Please give your servers and others the benefit of the doubt when considering a tip. If the meal isn't right, consider how busy the kitchen staff is, or if your room isn't made up perfectly... oh wait, you're staying at Super 8... never mind about your room. BTW, that particular motel allows smoking, and pets, so if you have any problems with animal allergies, be aware.

As for cab fares, I use cabs somewhat frequently, and check http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=LV for estimates. The site seems to be fairly accurate, and you can use it to determine the best route for you to instruct the driver. The cab's meter will begin counting as soon as he turns it on, with a mileage based fee, and if the cab is stopped for a specific period of time... 30 seconds, I think, it will begin ticking off again, on a time basis and revert to the mileage basis when the vehicle begins moving again so you want to be sure the driver tries to avoid congested routes.

    Typo corrected.

The long causeways over Biscayne Bay, connecting Miami and Miami Beach, aren't much of a problem if you have a rental car, though Miami Beach parking can be a hassle. There's a parking garage near Lincoln Road (aka Lincoln Mall for the pedestrian-only section) that's close to the shopping and eateries.

Otherwise the buses can be confusing, and taxis cost a bit. If I were you I'd try to stay in Miami Beach, it's just more convenient for the things you likely wanna see & do.

Many of the art deco hotels on Ocean Drive will let you check out their lobbies, which can be interesting if you like architecture, and have a drink in those with bars. I especially like the Victor, which has an airy second bar on the second floor I enjoy, that was open to the public last time I was there.

If you'd like to try a legal nude beach, take A1A/Collins Ave about 3 miles from MB to the north, to Haulover Beach at Sunny Isles. You park on the left in a pay lot, going to the northern-end of the parking, where's there's a pedestrian tunnel that crosses under divided Collins. Or have a taxi bring you to the Park HQ on the right side of the road. Once on the beach the nude section is to the left when facing the ocean (again north), the informal gay section at the far end, closest to the high-rise condos.

If you fly into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport instead of Miami I might be able to pick you up, and bring you down to South Beach. We can coordinate on RJ e-mail. But not on Nov 11th, I'll be out of town.

A good economy hotel closer to strip - you have time to change unless you did a webservice like expedia etc..http://www.microtelinn.com/hotels/nevada/las-vegas/microtel-inn-and-suites-airport-south-las-vegas/photos-video?partner_id=&hotel_id=29414&campaign_code=&checkout_date&brand_id=MT&children=0&corporate_id=&teens=0&affiliate_id=&iata=&rate_code=&adults=1&checkin_date&rooms=1

Taxis can be very expensive in Las Vegas, but if you are checking out clubs/shopping/dining choices on the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd), do consider the Las Vegas Monorail.

If you like seeing plenty of drunk Asian chicks, go to the ones listed.
Marquee and 1OAK are the places I'd recommend. Might be pricey, but when you're gonna go to Vegas, might as well go all out. icon_smile.gif

Where are you staying in LA?

LAX, like someone said, has only buses to get around from there. I'd recommend taking the Super Shuttle to where you're going.

ALWAYS look at the parking signs if you are going to have a car.

    Grove is fun.
Bev Center is like any other mall.
Santa Monica Promenade is same as the grove- being it's an outside walking mall.

    Go to Santa Monica Pier.

    Just curious... why A&F?

While in Cancun, since you are on the Yucatan Peninsula go and check out the ancient Mayan pyramids and ruins.
Completely delete Las Vegas and visit warm and beautiful San Diego instead.

You'll actually be staying a few blocks from my house on the Upper East Side. Though according to Art, I don't live in Miami. But I regularly go to South Beach and at most it is a 10-15 minute car ride. There is not much tourist stuff going on in my neck of the woods. Lots of restuarants, cafes, and the like, but it's not an area known for it's party scene.

I don't know if you would enjoy this but there is an area called Wynwood Walls that features blocks and blocks of murals and public art work. Also the second Saturday of the month they open up the art studios to the public and feature food and wine for everybody. It draws a pretty large crowd.

If you want to shop head to Aventura Mall which is just a few miles north up the road on Biscayne. Aventura features more stores than South Beach and is a little more upscale. But if you really want upscale head to Bal Harbor Shops. Though I don't know if they have much for gay men. More like a old money kinda place for shopping.

For Vegas maybe u should also squeeze in some pool party fun if you have time

    Like wet republiccc

    Here's a list of everything

    http://www.vegasmadeeasy.com/nightlife/pool-parties/51-las-vegas-pool-parties

For LA yeah go to the grove it's signature LA. However bev center is for some real shopping. Might as well do Santa Monica promenade if ur gonna do Venice boardwalk next door

Do u have time to surf also? Malibu it!! Zuma zuma

So many things to do and see ;-)

If u like to eat my favorite restaurant is Koi is LA (typical LA celebrity restaurant). Maybe u will see a kardashian. For Vegas do the country club an all American steakhouse at the Wynn (no kangaroo here tho ha)

Maybe u should also try Ethiopian food in LA since yall don't have that down under. Just go to lil Ethiopia for that on fairfax ave

More LA--You should also do Rodeo Drive in LA just to see the most expensive shops since it's "world famous". Quick stop to sprinkles cupcakes won't hurt

(I assume u will have a car when you're in la bc it's a driving city)

More Vegas- see Hoover dam if u wanna get out of the casinos/hotels/resorts. Since u will have free day time maybe skydive? Desert revolution freefall

Palace bar on 12th and Ocean Drive. It's more of a daytime bar where you can sit on the patio and watch with a view of the beach. And the staff is kinda sexy. icon_wink.gif
