Whey Protein: What brand do you use and why?
Aug 28, 2008 4:12 PM GMT
Hey!
I'm interested in what brand of whey protein different guys use. How did you come across that brand, and why are you using it.

I use Optimum Nutrition (ON) 100% whey protein. Iis basically use it becasue that is what my trainer recommended. Anyone think ON is a good brand of whey protein for muscle growth?

I’m not a supplement snob. I like the whey they sell at Wal-Mart. It tastes pretty good too.

I use the stuff I buy at wal-mart too, mostly because it has 52g of protein per 200 calories, which is insane. It has glutamine in it too, which is good?

I dunno, I'm a retard when it comes to nutrition.

I use isopure.....low carb choc powder with fish oil on the side.

Decent taste, not the cheapest stuff but....it's something I've found I like using for me.

I use the Designer Whey Protein Supplement - favourite flavour is Strawberry for breakfast mixed with a banana...

Also used the Isopure but it wasn't doing anything for me so switched back to my Eat Smart from Isatori...

I buy the one at Costco. It's Premium Protein be EAS and it's roughly $33 for 6lb. It's the best deal I can find.

I went the cheap way, got it from walmart. Works pretty well for me right now I guess.

I don't think you have to spend a lot of money. Walmart, Costco, etc. I suggest going this route. Buying MuscleTech is a waste of money. Their products are ridiculously expensive mainly to support all of their marketing hype.

I buy pure whey protein isolate in bulk from trueprotein.com. One of the trainers at the gym told me about the website, and I use it because it's cheaper than the healthfood store whey protein powder I had been buying, and I prefer to flavor and sweeten my shakes with my own choice of ingredients.

ON's Gold Standard 100% Whey Chocolate Mint!! YUM!

How does the trueprotein.com stuff taste?

What I buy is just the pure whey isolate with no flavors or sweetener added (they're optional), and it has a very mild milky taste. Once in a while, if I'm in a hurry, I'll mix a scoop with just water and drink it; it's not horrible, but it does taste better with yummy stuff added. Usually, I add coconut milk, maple syrup, and fruit concentrate or cocoa & instant coffee.

sometimes when i'm a bit lazy blending whey protein powders, i just take this "ready-to-drink" protein shakes ...

i try to have constant supply of them every month ... well, it's pretty expensive ... but i guess, that's the way to go because i'm pretty lazy blending all those powders all the time ... ha ha ... lol ...

I use Pride Nutrition Respect. Tastes great and has 0g cholesterol. Something I was told was that you can tell a better grade protein by how much cholesterol is in a serving...the lower the cholesterol, the better the quality. Not sure if that's true, but Respect is definitely good protein.

Whey protein concentrate still contains some fat, cholesterol, and lactose. Whey protein isolate, on the other hand, is further filtered and concentrated and has virtually no fat, cholesterol, or lactose. The isolate costs almost twice as much as the concentrate, so the amount of cholesterol in a whey protein mix reflects how much of the cheaper concentrate is in it.

Optimum Nutrition is the best tasting that I've found. I've been using it for a while. I buy 10lb. bag for ~$70.

I am not too concerned with flavor. I just want it to work and be reasonable. I usually add my protein powder to other things like fruit smoothies so vanilla flavor works well for my strawberry and berry smoothies...

Alright...now who wants some?

I've been using Beverly International Ultimate Muscle Protein, usually the cookies & cream flavor. I think their website is bodybuildingworld.com
But I'm gonna check out the trueprotein.com site

I'm not big on protein supplements now, but I've drank protein bullets before. They are syrupy and disgusting, but you can get 42 grams of protein down in 3 oz.

How much sugar do they have?
Sep 01, 2008 2:57 AM GMT
There isn't any sugar!

I use 100% pure Whey Protein concentrate from nutrabiotics.com. Nothing is added...no sugars, artificial sweetners, colorings, or flavorings. Every protein powder I had tried before didn't agree with me.
