I think it all depends on the time of day at my gym. When it is really busy in the late afternoon/evening rush some of the guys leave the showers a real mess. I've sometimes found towels still hanging on the hooks outside empty showers, and even shampoo left behind. I don't get that one. But I think once things have thinned out, they come through and clean. There have been a few times late at night when I go in before work that I've seen the over night staff spraying the showers and steam room down. It's just hard to dodge all the guys during a rush, cause the showers are like down a hall on either side.

There was only once the showers weren't clean at my gym, and that's when they were snaking the plumbing and things backed up. But the management put up signs warning us not to use the showers for a few days.

What really amuses me are the plastic signs in my gym's showers warning that the floor may be wet. Of course the floor's wet--it's in a shower....

Well, I clean them when they start to get really disgusting, or when company is expected. (BTW, I made the showers here large, as they are one of my favorite places to entertain "company.") ;)

The immaculate condition of my current gym (Equinox) was one reason I joined it.

Every time I am in the locker room there is *at least* one maintenance person cleaning something. Several times, they actually had three people cleaning various areas simultaneously.

The day I toured the gym, a woman happened to be *unscrewing the grille's* on the fans in the spinning studio, so that she could dust them.

Both Les Mills gyms in Wellington (New Zealand)are absolutely disgusting by 6pm. The scum and the mould in the on the floor sits there day after day, and yes, I did complain a few times about it. The cleaner at the main gym seems to knock off at 5, just before the rush! And to top it off, the (uncleaned) urinal is right next to the entrance to the locker room (or "changing suite" as they euphemistically call it), so you get a lovely blast of old pee as you come in the door (works for some, probably!! :D )

Shower cleanliness is almost at the top of my list now that I'm looking for a new gym here in Paris.

Mostly clean but the last one in the row always smells of bad drains. Also an amazing amount of shorts & underwear left behind.

I just go home and shower. After years of living in a dorm, i cherish my own clean bathroom.

Showers at our county facility are generally pretty clean, BUT, it appears that several people have picked up the resistant staph infections...I'm not certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if they picked it up in the dressing rooms. The DR's look clean, but ...!

LOL... I don't have a gym yet but these are some compelling issues I should look into when I start looking for one.

It all depends on the time of day. If I get there at 5am, showers are nice and clean..if I get there at 5pm, I even have to wait for a shower to open up, so you can imagine how dirty they are at that time. The attendant keeps the shower as clean as possible but he can do only so much.

I acutally have never had a problem with my gym being dirty. Everything is usually pretty clean. No complaints on that end for Gold's Gym.

Even though I live in the frozen tundra, I walk back and forth to the gym. For that reason, I rarely shower there. It's not because of the condition of the showers, but because I don't like having to cart things like deodorant to the gym in my backpack.

I have used the showers a couple of times. The public showers are okay, and what you would expect at a YMCA in Canada. The showers in the expensive locker room are very nice and clean. You get what you pay for.

the place where I work out at is pretty clean. But some older men take showering to the extreme. The gym is in japantown and there are some men who just sit there asses on the shower floor. They have no shame lol
