President Barack Obama was a guest at the 1991 wedding of ABC senior foreign correspondent and vice presidential debate moderator Martha Raddatz, The Daily Caller has learned. Obama and groom Julius Genachowski, whom Obama would later tap to head the Federal Communications Commission, were Harvard Law School classmates at the time and members of the Harvard Law Review.

After TheDC made preliminary inquiries Monday to confirm Obama’s attendance at the wedding, ABC leaked a pre-emptive statement to news outlets including Politico and The Daily Beast Tuesday, revealing what may have been internal network pressure felt just days before Raddatz was scheduled to moderate the one and only vice-presidential debate Thursday night.

Both Politico and The Daily Beast jumped to ABC and Raddatz’s defense. The Huffington Post, a liberal news outlet, joined them shortly thereafter, while calling “unusual” ABC’s attempt to kill the story before it gained wide circulation.

The fact that the President of the United States knows people is news?

That wouldn't be news at all. That he attended her wedding is indicative she may not be impartial - and it's worse that the potential bias was not disclosed. If there were transparency, it would not look as bad as it does now.

If it were not an issue why is it something they at first tried to deny and obfuscate?

Sorry, I still don't see how attending the wedding as a guest of a law school classmate (the groom not the bride, Martha Raddatz) 21 years ago is an issue let alone looks bad. Does Obama still hang out with her? I've been to many weddings in my life, and more recently than the wedding in question, and I couldn't even begin to come up with the names of the couples in many of those weddings, let alone have any contact with them now. Trying to link Obama to her based on this one wedding is as absurd as Romney trying to link himself to Glen Doherty (one of the 4 Americans killed in Benghazi). You're manufacturing controversy where there isn't any.

If you have an issue with ABC allegedly trying to cover this up, then take it up with them.

Again, why would they attempt to hide the fact if there's nothing to be embarrassed about? As they say, it's the generally the coverup that'll get you.

    No, you're a liar.
ABC isn't "scrambling to downplay" anything.

This is just another one of your silly attempts to pin something scandalous on our President.

A law student (Barack Obama), attending a wedding, TWENTY ONE YEARS AGO, is a non issue.

And, it doesn't even come from ABC News.

It comes from the right wing rag, "The Daily Caller," which is vehemently anti Democratic.

The woman who's moderating the Vice Presidential debate, is long divorced from the guy she married TWENTY ONE YEARS AGO, a wedding which Barack Obama, who was a law STUDENT, at the time, happened to attend.

You would do well to stop cutting and pasting lies and innuendo from National Enquirer type "news" sources.

As it is, you and your silly threads have ZERO credibility.

Making a mountain out of a molehill is quite unproductive--and it's not going to help either party win this election. Let's focus on issues of consequence.

So why wasn't the issue disclosed? I agree it's a side issue - and for this reason she should be removed in favor of someone who appears to not have the same potential conflicts.

Martha Raddatz is the moderator of tonight’s vice presidential debate. In 1991, Barack Obama attended her wedding. A year later, her then-husband, now a high level administration appointee and a personal friend of the president, attended the Obamas’ wedding.

Irrelevant information? Put it this way: If Raddatz were a judge, she’d likely have to recuse herself from cases pertaining to the Obamas.

We’re not arguing that Raddatz will slant tonight’s debate in the Obama campaign’s favor — any more than a member of Congress would automatically vote for an appropriation simply because it helps a campaign contributor. We are arguing that the public has a right to know the facts about Raddatz’s relationship to the president.

Thanks for the info.. now lets move along to more important topics.

And yet it again goes to the fact it wasn't disclosed and they tried to cover up the relationship which is what should disqualify her. And frankly while you may have such a magnanimous view of your own opinions, I do not share your view.
