Duchovny in rehab for sex addiction

He entered facility voluntarily, according to statement from his lawyer

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction.

Actor David Duchovny starred in this summer's second "X-Files" movie.

In a statement released Thursday by his lawyer, Stanton Stein, the actor said he did so voluntarily, adding, "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

The actor's publicist, Flo Grace, confirmed the rehab report, which first appeared on People.com.

She and Stein both declined to elaborate further.

Duchovny plays a sex-obsessed character on the Showtime series "Californication," which earned Emmy nominations for casting and cinematography. The show's second season begins September 28.

Duchovny, 48, best known for the role of Agent Fox Mulder on "The X-Files," has been married to actress Tea Leoni since 1997. They have two children.

I'm not sure I'd want anybody to evaluate me for sex addiction, or coffee addiction, for that matter. No telling what they'd announce.

Why is it that people want to call every impulse-control problem an addiction? An addiction is a chemical dependency, not a habit. The only chemical you are getting from sex is the endorphins, and you can get them from lots of different activities, not just sex.

Many of the characters he has played have had some kind of ill-concealed randiness or sexual frustration. I often felt like there was some kind of joke going on about their similarity to the real David Duchovny. Didn't he get his start playing the narrator character of "Red-Shoe Diaries"? And part of the point of Mulder was that he was somehow inhibited from relationships with real women, and it was sometimes hinted that he channeled his sexual energy into porn, as well as his obsessive attachment to work. It seemed like the "Californication" character was just the most explicit expression of a theme that's been going on in the roles he has chosen to play for a long time.

I guess the rumor in the past was that he is very well hung. So some guys with very well hung willies like to show it off.

He was in a movie - some independent thing - way back in the late 80s early 90s around the time he played that tranny on Twin Peaks - and he showed his thing. It is in fact quite large.

But then we X-Files devotees remember that bulge-tastic red speedo in the vampire episode set in LA during the time of Scully's first disappearance.
