Maryland had been the hottest team going into the tournament, but Miami had already beat them in College Park and had the confidence they needed to pull off the upset.

Florida State also knocked off Clemson, setting up quarterfinal matchups of #1)UNC vs. #9)Florida State and #4)Boston College vs. #12)Miami

The field is opening up nicely for Roy's Boys in Chapel Hill...

you forgot about the wonderful news of NCST beating Duke today. ahhh, i couldn't be happier. Hopefully NC will take care of business and not let easy games get away from them.

Well when I posted the note, my Duke team hadn't yet choked against State. Amazingly, all the lower seeds won opening round games in the ACC yesterday, which has got to be great news for the TarHeels.

UNC should walk to the championship (assuming they don't lose for the 3rd time to VaTech).

Big surprise yesterday was Cal over UCLA. Just when I think Ben Braun is about to get fired, he saves his job again. He reminds me of Steve Lavin @ UCLA. He wins just enough not to be replaced....

Ben Braun will not get fired. He lost Leon Powe, and two of his stars to injury this year. He did the best he could, and is the only team in the Pac 10 (I think) to beat UCLA at least once in each of the last nine seasons.

I agree with you...Braun's not going anywhere - yet. But season tix sales at Haas have been less-than stellar and Cal hasn't been a threat on the national scene in quite a while. Alot of times with universities, when one sport reaches national prominence - like the football team has done under Tedford - it makes people say "Why can't the Basketball team do the same thing." If Braun doesn't get this team in the top 25 next year, I think he may be in trouble. The surprise success of Washington State and USC this year in the Pac10 are putting the Cal program under a microscope.

For sure Key...March my favorite time of year...Looks like Miami may pull their 2nd straight upset - this time over Boston College.

That would be great news for the TarHeels, who disposed of Florida St. with no problem earlier today.

Looks like I spoke too soon...BC came back and beat Miami in Overtime. Carolina matches up well with the Golden Eagles. I'd be surprised if BC wins again tomorrow.

i'm glad NC made it to the finals but i'm kind of worried about them right now, especially the way NCST is playing. i'm hoping they will be spent out otherwise they can give NC a good fight.

anyone else think UNC deserves a #1 seed if they win today? a lot of people on espn are saying the best they deserve even if they win is a 2 seed. in their place? UCLA?! crazy....
