My feet grew!

Well I'll be damned! Five days ago I started feeling some pain in my foot, in the area where the heel and arch connect. It was puzzling to me because I couldn't remember hurting myself or doing anything out of the ordinary.

So today I went shoe shopping. Needless to say, it seems my feet have grown! I've been wearing a size 9 since I was 14/15 years old. I got by just fine all these years. But apparently now I'm a 9.5. The shoes I bought today definitely make my heel feel much better. I just didn't realize my feet could still grow well into adulthood.

Feet, ears and nose have a degree of continuous growth through your life. Not sure about hands...

I've often heard that. I guess I doubted that because I stopped growing in height at 15. I've not grown a smidgen above 5'6" since then icon_confused.gif

Well, I just hope these new shoes help. They certainly feel a lot more comfortable. I didn't realize until now that my shoes might've been the problem.

Obviously it's time to put other pics in my privates section besides my rear now that I've "grown" icon_wink.gif

So far so good. The shoes feel great! Amazingly, they're not too stiff like new shoes tend to be.

That is strange. I think my feet stopped (thank god) at size 13's.

Well it comes from me thinking I was cool back in the day for wearing shoes bigger than everyone else (even if they didn't fit) but all it lead to was me being called clown feet.

At least you can find your size easily. Try shopping for size 15

You may also be experiencing fallen arches; when the arch falls, the length and sometimes the spread of your feet will increase, hence the change in size.

Don't short yourself with cheap shoes, or ill-fitting ones.

My feet are 13's now, but used to be bigger in my teens before I got shoes that fit properly.

Yep this. From what you described with the pain you felt, it sounds like your arches have fallen slightly, which in some can give the illusion that the foot got bigger. Really it just spread out a bit more. I don't know enough about it, but generally arches fall with age, and I think nutrition is a factor with it since it deals with ligmants and tendons.

I'm also size 13. Might as well join the club icon_biggrin.gif.

I was size 9-1/2 when I got a pair of leather shoes at 15. I know exactly when because my father bought them with me for my sophomore high school year. I rotated wearing them with other shoes, and by the time I entered the Army I only wore them with certain civilian outfits.

I was still wearing them 30 years later at 45, with the original soles & heels. But by then my feet had grown (or stretched) to size 10, so they were snug for more than a couple of hours wear. By age 50 I finally tossed them. Now I'm a 10-1/2. Feet getting larger, from actual growth or spreading, is normal.

I have lost a shoe size.

Congrats OP. Maybe you should get the measuring tape out. Perhaps other things have grown. icon_wink.gif

it's called water retention and gaining weight.

your feet do not continue to grow; the fusing of bones in hands and feet in early adulthood / late adolescence ensure this.

+This - hopefully you can have the shoe store tell you the condition of your arches - if your previous shoes weren't supporting your feet it could well lead to a size or half size spread.
