Canada, is this true? I can't find a source impartial and credible enough for me. "Catholic Schools Told They Can’t Teach Abortion is Wrong"

"On Wednesday, Ontario’s Minister of Education rocked Ontario taxpayers, sending a shockwave across Canada, and even beyond our borders, with an announcement that can only be described as “totalitarian”.

Laurel Broten, Minister of Education told reporters that under its new anti-bullying law, Bill 13, The Accepting Schools Act, Catholic schools would no longer be permitted to teach that abortion is wrong!

A transcript of the remarks from Premier McGuinty’s office to LifeSiteNews quoted Minister Broten:

“We do not allow and we’re very clear with the passage of Bill 13 that Catholic teachings cannot be taught in our schools that violates human rights and which brings a lack of acceptance to participation in schools,” she said.

“I don’t think that there is a contrast or a conflict between choosing a Catholic education for your children and supporting a woman’s right to choose,” she added.

Asked for clarification she said again: “Bill 13 has in it a clear indication of ensuring that our schools are safe, accepting places for all our students. That includes of LGBTQ students. That includes young girls in our school. Bill 13 is about tackling misogyny, taking away a woman’s right to choose could arguably be one of the most misogynistic actions that one could take.” ..."

First I heard of this as part of the bill 13 but I wouldn't doubt it and agree with the board of education.

In Ontario education there are only two constitutionally entitled tax payer funded systems, the public (previously protestant) and the separate (Roman Catholic) . You check off yearly which of the two you want your taxes to support when you file your taxes. All other religions are not entitled to tax payer funding for their schools. Most Ontarians would like only one public system and of course the minority religions want a piece of the pie just like the Catholics get.

The schools are getting government funding; all Ontarians are paying.

In the following article, one woman has had enough of it.

However, funding shortfalls from this method has meant the Ontario gov't has been pouring funds into the Catholic school system as the above voluntary direction of property taxes for Catholic schools is inadequate. icon_wink.gif

Ontario Ed has a something I believe called the fair funding act; all schools that are public or Catholic must receive adequate funding. icon_wink.gif

What does all the funding discussion have to do with whether the MEd said that or not? Is this official policy or just a remark by her that may become policy?

    Thank you.

Well, I'd say as long as the Catholic Church takes tax money, they shouldn't be able to discriminate based in their beliefs. If they want to do that, then refuse the tax money and go it alone.

...and there was also a massive kerfuffle over straight and gay kids forming Alliance groups. Can't have the straight kids learning that the gay kids are equal and are to be accepted and openly associating with them. Scandalous.

Most of the Catholic School Boards outright banned them or forced them to be called something else or banned the term "gay" "rainbow" in the club names

The Ontario Catholic Teachers Assoc. didn't really have any problem with gay /straight clubs in schools,, it was the trustees etc. and their pressure on the school principals mostly.

Now we have last month or so a Catholic school in London Ont. which has opened a prayer room for their Muslim students to utilize during school hours.. hardly made news and these same trustees don't seem to have a problem with that.

Well, that makes sense; anti-gay religions unite! icon_lol.gif
