Understandably, emotions were running high, but am I the only one who thinks the scene was a bit undignified at a military funeral? While I find the actions and 'ideas' of the WBC totally abhorrent, they are best ignored and denied the oxygen of publicity. Better still, just denied oxygen.

    No, you're not.

It was undignified; but it was well deserved. Too bad the WBC member didn't "accidentally" hit his head on the pavement and die.

Protests are political. They should be illegal during funerals in my opinion...These people who claim they are Gods children doing Gods work wont give a person a proper funeral...Doesn't God love everyone, and dont they deserve to be buried in peace....

I hope I never run across them. I won't hold back. the good thing is that I can just blame it on a PTSD trip and get away scott free.

You might think that the "GOOD" guys actions are disrespectful for a military funeral. their main purpose to to block out the chants and the yells of the WBC protesters. but I do agree. the funeral procession should be solemn not loud and boisterous. the federal courts should have made it illegal for them to protest anywhere within view or earshot of a procession or service.

Same here, but I can't blame it on PTSD. Instead, I'll just take the rap as is and not give a fuck about the criminal record...advantages of being self-employed. icon_cool.gif

I still cannot understand why a small renegade band of special forces personnel haven't taken these fuckers out yet. (Not that I would ever condone extra-judicial killings, you understand.)

    Because people are pussies.

If I run across them protesting a gay man's funeral, I'll probably kill at least one of them, have absolutely no remorse, and enjoy every minute of it. I also completely believe that the judge would throw out the case.

The world is only getting smaller, and eventually these people and their twisted belief systems will be squeezed out and rendered obsolete. Need someone to them down?

If the article is correct, the provocation that caused the attack was a WBC member stomping on the US flag, not protesting the funeral.

oh, no. what we are saying is that their existence /and/or/ presence there is an affront and should not be tolerated.

Amazingly, the leader Fred Phelps was a noted Civil Rights attorney back in the '50s and '60s, which suggests that extreme forms of prejudice and religious fanatacism may be fueled by mental illness.

They always bring their creepy OshKosh B'ghosh Hates You tykes to these things.

I don't get them. Seeing the things they do then hearing what they preach... it's insane. And their awful way of justifying the disgusting actions they take... Why do they have to use religion as a weapon, it's just vile.

Anyway, relating to this story, I don't think they should have been attacked. They're looking for a hostile reaction to use against the world, to make themselves look like the righteous beings. If people just ignored them, they'd have no power.

Incorret. The fact that people have ignored them are the reason they continue to have power.

All it'll take is one person to kill one of them. Then they'll stop.

Out of curiosity, isn't what they're doing illegal too? Disturbing the peace or something?

That dude should be happy that he was only punched IN the head and that he didn't take a bullet THROUGH the head.

If Westboro ever protests my funeral, I've instructed my loved ones to seek out this sousaphone player to administer a proper smack down:

As many military soldiers that have died and been mocked at their own funeral, I don't understand why the militia or snipers have yet to take care of some of these guys. It's always the good people who get murdered or die a terrible disease. Why can't one of these fuckers get what they deserve?

Because I haven't finished putting together an elaborate plan that will take ALL of them out, slowly and painfully.

The Westboro Baptist Church demonstrates what you get when you mix anything (like the Bill of Rights) with crazy: still crazy.

    1. Crazy plus First Amendment equals WBC.
    2. Crazy plus Second Amendment equals Jared Lee Loughner.
    3. Crazy plus Tenth Amendment equals slavery, ultrasound laws, marriage amendments.

You get the idea. The common denominator is crazy. Get rid of the crazy and we'll have a nicer planet. Maybe there's a test somewhere...
