Are you guys still splurging on Jeans??
Aug 30, 2008 3:14 PM GMT
I found a very interesting article this morning in the paper. It talked about how people are still buying expensive jeans even in a tight economy. I have to admit I'm guilty as charged myself.

I still have so many jeans it's just disgusting... I just gave away about 25 pairs. However I did buy one pair a couple weeks ago and I have to admit that I did splurge a little.

the article is talking about women buying jeans...

Trivia question: where did denim cloth originally come from?

I buy my jeans at freakin Old Navy.

It ain't the brand, it's how well you wear them.

Buy your jeans online at Ebay...much cheaper and better selection.

Denim came from canvas that Levi / Straus turned into over alls for miners, the miners loved the fabric but it chafed to much so levi subsituted a more twilled cloth called "serge de Nimes" later shortened to Denim.

^_^ for caslon question...

Yes the main focus of the articles was about women, but there was a guy interviewed, who sounded very into clothes who had his on a pair of 300 plus jeans also, he sounded like he had some extra bucks to play with for his clothing budget too.

Good information...

Denim originally came from Nimes, Frances.. "from Nimes" in French is "de Nimes"....which in English conflated to "Denim."

I look at jeans as an investment. If I'm gonna spend a couple hundred on a pair, not only do I know that I will have them for at least a few years (and wear them often), but that they'll make my ass look fabulous!
I do think w/ jeans that you get what you pay for if you buy the right brand. My fav is GStar and Diesel. I got a pair of True Religions recently at an outlet for $80! -Which is a steal if you know what they really go for. I don't think I would ever spend more than $200 on a pair of jeans...and its rare that I can do that these days!

I love jeans! I was recently in Luxembourg and found this pair of dark denim jeans in this store called Springfield; I didn't care how many euros they cost or how much over my baggage weight they would put me, I just had to have them. Have to say, they look damn good, too!

The 7's I purchased a couple of months ago at Nordstoms for 100 bucks was the most I have ever paid for Jeans. I do have to say they are the best fitting pair of jeans I have ever owned, I would purchase another pair from that brand hands down.

Anything that properly accentuates my ass and my package are worth atleast 40 bucks.

Spending $40 really is sort of the average price. I can go to Sears and buy the boot cut jeans that looks good on my body for a tad less. but I don't spend over $200 on jeans. That's just ridiculous.

I'm never impressed when someone wears a pair of these $200 jeans versus a good pair of basic Levi's. It's really the body that makes the difference.

I buy clothes on the sale rack at the gap. I spend $8 on long sleeved pullovers and I get people that wear Prada and Gucci asking me where I get my clothing. They turn a lovely shade of green when I tell them where and how much I've spent.

I've been buying Buffalo brand jeans since my first pair. All kinds of people were commenting on the jeans and my ass. Well worth the investment

Hym, never heard of Buffalo Jeans. I did a search and found them to be around the $90 mark. That's not too bad.

I used to be one of those people who owned a ridiculous amount of jeans. Now I see them as investment. I have cut down to five pairs of jeans. That's it. I find that's the perfect number (for me anyways). Having said that, I bought three pairs of true religion at about $300 - $350 a pop, a pair or seven and a pair of D&G's, my budget was busted after that. But I covered all cuts and washes and those five pairs. I'll be good to good for the next year or so.
