(Playing devil's advocate): I know we're wired to hold life precious, but if u were severely disfigured, wud u go on living? Wud ur life still be worth living or wud u rather be dead?

life is always worth living honestly. I could be disfigured and all and still would rather live then to not exist anymore and go on into emptiness. the idea of not experiencing joy, sadness or whatever is terrifying. so yes i'd like to think that i would go on and live! : )

I think I would. There are still many good things to do that don't depend on your looks. Once you die you can't live again, so it's better to do as much as you can while you're still alive.

If vanity ruled ur life it wud be a drastic adjustment, wud they be able to cope with the lost of their former appearance? Guess it wudn't matter anymore, u'd have to readjust & learn to live with the new u.

Well I don't think I can look much worse than I do now, so I think I'd keep on living! icon_biggrin.gif

But in all seriousness, I'm not sure. I don't know how I would react unless I was in that situation, but I would try my best to turn my suffering into motivation and inspiration for others. I could at least do that.

This happen a lot in Asia. People get acid throw to thier face , some go blind , some get disfigure and some time died. Some less disfigures case can still be treated with plastic surgery. You must be a real evil person to do such a horrible thing to anyone.

Sometimes I do wonder what will I do if the same thing happen to me. My faith prohibited suicide so probably I still keep living and make the most of it.

Just because your disfigured outwardly doesn't mean beauty doesn't exist on the inside...It's pretty tell of a guy's inner core if he chose to die if this was indeed the case...My 2

There's more beauty to life than human physicalities.

I don't think there is any way of truly knowing how you would react to any extreme situation like that until it were to actually happen. My first reaction would probably be "Get me Dr. Kevorkian", but I would like to think that I would find a reason and the strength to keep on living.

Yes, I would. I already expect my looks to fade as I get older, and as I age I plan to focus less on my social life and more on my other interests, which include reading, writing, interior design, landscaping, listening to music, traveling, etc.

I'd be more afraid of severe brain damage. If an accident left me as a brain dead vegetable, I would want my loved ones to pull the plug.

Your life is so very precious. Unfortunately many people don't understand that.

    Dunno, it's a tough call.

I would hate to be a burden on someone's life -- if this would mean I need to actually rely on someone to get around day-to-day.
The issue with believing in fate/higher power(s) is that I would be critical and never quit wondering why I am meant to be this way.

Of course if you have people who love and care for your wellbeing then it would be selfish to say you'd be better off dead.

It's funny because many people argue for rights that involve living a fruitful life.
When death is factored into the equation everything changes. I'm not criticizing anyone here, just making an observation.

I suppose I would keep living but I would slowly but surely become depressed and harsh. I'd probably have the attitude of pulling the shortest stick from the bunch.

I'm already disfigured from all the times I killed myself for being disfigured. I think I have 3 lives left. Meow.

    Yes, go on living.
I would not want to if I became a burden to others though.

Do you mean to say they love you for more than just your beauty???

Or they hate you because you're beautiful???

Simple... You just post the question that you want to ask, for example if you were to have asked the question like this -

I know we're wired to hold life precious, but if u were severely disfigured, wud u go on living? Wud ur life still be worth living or wud u rather be dead?
It will still look like an unbiased question.

I for one would still continue to go on living.

Ofcourse, adapt and survive you can still feel regardless and people will still care for you
