    Hi! Jocks,

I have a gay friend, He says that "Homophobia is over."
Given my personal life experience, I don't find this is true.

Do you think homophobia is over?

No way. There are still plenty of sexists and racists out there, plus all kinds of other prejudices. Why would it change for homophobia?

This. No form of hate or discrimination will ever be completely eradicated. It will always exist to a degree. That being said yes, gay rights have come a long way and in some ways keep improving. But discrimination based on sexual orientation is still higher than other forms of discrimination....which still exist as well and always will.

Is it homophobia (fear) or is it Homobigotry (hate)?

Most people I've met that don't like gays don't like them because they think they are:

    sinners
    perverts
    scum

This is not fear but an inflated sense of superiority. icon_wink.gif

There will always be homophobes, however maybe they will become as marginalized as the KKK.

Churches will stop preaching against homosexuals, concerned mothers care about education, family research council will prevent homelessness in kids and Rush Limbaugh advertise for adult diapers.

Introduce your friend to Fred Phelps, then ask him if he still feels that way.

It won't ever be entirely over, but its champions will have to sublimate it into something less overt and base, just as they have with their contempt for other minorities when it no longer became socially acceptable to condemn them quite so openly.

They hate having that table turn on them, and they hate having the public at large turn from them.

    Homophobia

There was a man who took a stand to try to shed some light
He said that sexual preference is a basic human right
The school board laid him off and said the budget was too tight
But it sounds suspiciously like homophobia to me

A woman with a child of six could find no place to live
And finally her lover said, "Why don't you just move in?"
The landlord made excuses and raised the rent again
Sounds suspiciously like homophobia to me

    It happens every day
    No matter what they say
    It's just because you're gay
    Homophobia

    It happens everywhere
You know it's out of fear
    It's just because you're queer
    Homophobia

Some liberals say that it's okay for people to be queer
As long as they don't "flaunt" it, but it seems to me my dear
That we've seen straight folks flaunt their sexuality for years
Sounds suspiciously like homophobia to me

There was a man who shot our first gay supervisor dead
The Twinkies made him do it, that's what his attorney said
He could have gotten life, but he got seven years instead
Sounds suspiciously like homophobia to me

    It happens all the time
    It's not considered crime
    It's just another sign of
    Homophobia

    It happens to the dykes
    And faggots on their bikes
    The young and old alike
    Homophobia

Now AIDS has claimed so many lives, and still there is no cure
And if they don't spend more on research it will keep on killing more
Because it's called a "gay" disease it's easy to ignore
Which sounds a lot like blatant homophobia to me

    It happens left and right
    That's why we must unite
    We gotta stand and fight
    Homophobia

It depends if you are referring to masculine man loving and having sex, and desiring another other masculine man, or do you mean the camp fem men who insist on ramming their campness down other people’s throats instead of just being themselves, and allowing other folks to accept them .

some Places are more homophobic than others.
I get to hold my Boyfriends or any other guys hand out in public here in spain & kiss them .
Id feel kinda uncomfortable doing that & probably even dangerous In USA or latin america.

Perhaps a parochial view he has. Does he live in Berlin, like you? A very sexually liberated city (I lived there several years on Argentinische Allee - where are you?). If he spends most of his time in Berlin he might come to think that homophobia is over, lacking full knowledge of other cultures & places. He needs to visit our US southern States, and sit in the visitors' gallery of the Republican-led US House of Representatives, to learn that homophobia is very alive & well.
