Report: Global Warming Ended in 1997. Where's the Fanfare?

Last week, the UK Met released its latest global temperature data to the world. It shows that the Earth has not warmed in 15 years. The warming ceased after the great super El Nino of 1998.

The numbers are based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations around the planet. The data was quietly released last week without fanfare and it confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.

There's a reason why AlGore did not win a Nobel prize for science. Nobel prizes for science usually require actual science.

Who are some of the main shills for man-made global warming? Statists.

"Al Gore: Global Warming Worse than We Thought."

"Oct 12, 2012 – President Barack Obama warned his supporters about the threat of global warming and vowed that more money to subsidize green energy..."

"Biden believes that global warming is caused by industrial and automotive pollution, and that broad and immediate action must be taken to curb its effects."

15 years is but a blink of an eye in geological time.

Republicans never cease to amaze me with their willful blindness to the truth just to satisfy their current goals, regardless of who it hurts...even if it's the next several generations.

You could change the first word in the above paragraph to "democrats", and the statement would apply regarding borrowing and spending to no end. What happens when other countries stop buying US debt? That silly cow with the "Obama phone" will suddenly have to pay for her own phone, and it'll cost her $80,000.

This article claims only 3 agencies in the whole world track these climate numbers. Really, only 3? One of them the University of East Anglia ( icon_exclaim.gif ), and another the misnamed University of Huntsville in Alabama? (It's actually the University of Alabama in Huntsville, so already the accuracy of this article is busted) And NOAA in the US isn't one of them?

Actually NOAA does track climate, one of its primary missions, so let's see what it says:

The globally-averaged temperature for September 2012 tied with 2005 as the warmest September since record keeping began in 1880. September 2012 also marks the 36th consecutive September and 331st consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average.

Most areas of the world experienced much higher-than-average monthly temperatures, including central Russia, Japan, western Australia, northern Argentina, Paraguay, western Canada, and southern Greenland. Meanwhile, far eastern Russia, western Alaska, southern Africa, parts of the upper midwest and southeast United States, and much of China were notably below average.

In the Arctic, sea ice extent averaged 1.39 million square miles, resulting in the all-time lowest September sea ice extent on record, and on September 16th, the Arctic reached its all-time lowest daily extent on record. More than 4.57 million square miles of ice was lost in 2012, the size of the entire United States and Mexico combined.

Exactly. The quote is from the Dail Mail, a disreputable and sensationalist right-wing rag (funnily enough, often quoted by Riddler as well).

The Met Office released the following statement on the article (which was not published 'last week', but 8 months ago):

Met Office in the Media: 29 January 2012

Today the Mail on Sunday published a story written by David Rose entitled “Forget global warming – it’s Cycle 25 we need to worry about”.

This article includes numerous errors in the reporting of published peer reviewed science undertaken by the Met Office Hadley Centre and for Mr. Rose to suggest that the latest global temperatures available show no warming in the last 15 years is entirely misleading.

Despite the Met Office having spoken to David Rose ahead of the publication of the story, he has chosen to not fully include the answers we gave him to questions around decadal projections produced by the Met Office or his belief that we have seen no warming since 1997.

For clarity I have included our full response to David Rose below:A spokesman for the Met Office said: “The ten year projection remains groundbreaking science. The complete period for the original projection is not over yet and these projections are regularly updated to take account of the most recent data.
“The projections are probabilistic in nature, and no individual forecast should be taken in isolation. Instead, several decades of data will be needed to assess the robustness of the projections.

“However, what is absolutely clear is that we have continued to see a trend of warming, with the decade of 2000-2009 being clearly the warmest in the instrumental record going back to 1850. Depending on which temperature records you use, 2010 was the warmest year on record for NOAA NCDC and NASA GISS, and the second warmest on record in HadCRUT3.”

Thanks for your research, Ex_Mil8. In other words, jockfever has once again proven himself to be full of right-wing propaganda shit, which he isn't smart enough to recognize.

Ummm....... I don't know from what republican stained rag sheet that you got this "Study" from

but the earth has been warming progressively every single year
and we are very likely passing a tipping point where there can be no return
within our life time we will very likely have no Polar Ice Cap in summer
and we are seeing the severe droughts world wide that were predicted a long time ago

so file your "Study" under Republican Bullsh*t with the rest of your posts
I hope it's an expandable binder ....you'll need one

Man-made global warming is obviously very dear to the Left, anxious to expand government control over our lives.

There isn't just one scientist, one reporter, one source, one article, one book, or one set of data which contradicts the claims of ever increasing man-made global warming. There are many.

The data indicate warming of less than 1 (one) degree Centigrade per century. The data also indicate no warming and even cooling in the short term.

When the Left throws pejoratives it proves that it IS what it accuses its opponents of being.

    Global Warming Melts Away

"In the following analysis I use publicly available data as provided by government scientists at places like NASA, the U.K. Met office, and NOAA. This is the data we're told to use and trust. I'm using it and trusting it.

    Hoven%20-%20GW%20Melts%201.png

    Hoven%20-%20GW%20Melts%202.png

"In short, both temperature data sets (NASA and Hadley Center) show

    1. Minimal global warming over the last 130 to 160 years: about half a deg. C per century.
    2. No statistically significant global warming in the last 14 to 17 years.
    3. Global cooling in the last 9 to 13 years.

Sea Ice. The following two charts show Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere winter sea ice extent, in units of millions of square miles.

    Hoven%20-%20GW%20Melts%203.png

    Hoven%20-%20GW%20Melts%204.png

"What the data show. Whether you think the globe is getting warmer or not largely depends on your timeframe. If your timeframe is the entire time that modern temperature records have been kept, meaning since the 19th century, then the trend is indeed warming: about half a degree Celsius (about one degree Fahrenheit) per century. That is less than the difference in average July temperatures between Cape Hatteras and Charlotte, NC, for example.

If your time frame is more recent, like the last 15 years, then no warming can be detected. In fact, the trend has been cooling for about the last dozen years. This is apparent in NASA's data, the U.K.'s Met Office data, and measurements of both Arctic and Antarctic sea ice. Indeed, Antarctic sea ice has been growing for the 32 years since satellite measurements have been available.

In short, the data show nothing alarming at all: very mild warming over the long term, and actual cooling over the short term.

"Does it strike you as just a bit odd that the data of this chart causes so much fuss?

...and of course jockfever and his prayer warriors, who are supreme beings with a special 'in' with God, will just pray away any climate change so jock can play tennis.

It's So great to see that jockfever has taken the time to get a phd in climatology.

    Yawn.
