Anyone else think it's a bit contradictory that this site frequently has advertizements telling you to be safe and get tested for this STD. The ad then goes on to say that it isn't a gay thing (I realize it also says it isn't a straight, black or white thing), and yet I've never seen a "Get tested for AIDS" ad on any website so much in my life and this site just so happens to be gay-oriented.
I'm not offended by it. Just curious about what everyone else thinks.

I believe one gets tested for HIV, not for AIDS as you state.

"...I've never seen a "Get tested for AIDS" ad on any website..."

In any case, I encourage HIV testing, along with other STIs. I don't see how this is a problem. As far as being contradictory, HIV is not an exclusive gay thing. But it does affect gays who practice unsafe sex. Therefore it is appropriate here and I laud it being advertised on RJ.

Getting tested and having safe sex are not only not mutually exclusive, they are pretty much both mandatory. No safe sex method of protection is 100% effective, and it is everyone's responsibility to get tested periodically in addition to practicing safe sex if you are sexually active.

I actually have some questions about STD's and HIV that I am a bit embarrassed to ask in this thread. I try to be knowledgeable about the subject but there are some things that I'm confused on. Does anyone mind private messaging me if you have time (preferably someone who knows what they're talking about)?

You shouldn't be embarrassed to ask questions. There's also a lot of information on the Web on reputable sites, although some of it can seem a little contradictory.

Most of it being contradictory is exactly why I'm confused. It's more of a personal thing which is why I'm embarrassed to ask publicly.

    Just ask the question! icon_wink.gif

Being embarrassed is part of the reason why people get/give STDs.

I suppose. Or they just don't know. Hence the "Make sure you get tested!"

I'm always right. I think another forumer begrudgingly admitted it too. I don't need to rely on adhominem attacks like most of the "regulars" here
