And how would that not infringe on people's rights?

No, but we should get religion out of our government, have complete separation of church and state and start taxing churches.

TV channels need to stop airing shows like 700 Club and Sunday morning preaching.

Sunday morning I saw pastor John Hagee on TV telling people to "Vote the Bible". He asked people to consider when voting "which party supports the homosexual lifestyle, stands against Israel and stands against religious freedom?" That's right, one of our local channels thought it would be cool to air some right-wing political and partisan homophobic preaching.

Here in Florida they are trying to pass Amendment 8 which will allow public funds to be given to religious groups. They're trying to repeal the part of the Florida Constitution that says "No revenue of the state or any political subdivision or agency thereof shall ever be taken from the public treasury directly or indirectly in aid of any church, sect, or religious denomination or in aid of any sectarian institution."

People would be free to live as they were born to live. Finally...

So you're telling me that if a group of people who had the same beliefs wanted to form a group, that you think that should be illegal? I mean, I'm about as anti-religion as anyone, but even I would never force my way on everyone else.

If their unified belief is that certain people should be repressed for the way they were born (sexuality, skin color, national origin, gender, etc) then yes...it should be illegal for them to form organized groups.

We both know that not all religions do that. You can't go banning all religion just because of the actions of a few. Think where we'd be if we did that with everything in life.

I'm not purporting banning anything more than the constitution already bans, yet that ban has been overlooked and ignored since the constitution was written (separation of church and state).

Well, I absolutely agree with you there. But the comment was about outlawing religion...not the separation of church and state.

Jeeze... that's not all that far from where I live. And gays wonder why I'm still not as open about my sexuality as I should be at this point in my life.

Sigh... anyone ever feel like Christians miss the point?

Yeah but this is the internet. No thread is complete until it's been debunked and dismantled beyond recognition.

The constitution in no way bans people from organizing belief groups based on the idea that other people should be repressed for their personal characteristics. The action your previous post suggests is not at all the same thing as the separation of church and state that you mention in your reply.

Being wary is good, but I think the dancing and flute playing could yield mixed results. I mean I would totally be on board, but there might be a few priests and chick-fil-A denizens who might not be good sports about it, and/or possibly homicidal. But you may get to hear some cool scripture out of it.

Well lets see... terrorism seems a bit extreme... and art goes over their heads... Oooo, maybe make an ironic cult? That would be way edgy, and possibly profitable. A cult of gays against gays. We can have these big cocktail parties with club music and drugs, and plan our attacks against non-self hating gays. We can bring back tar and feathering, only we'll use glitter... AND feathers! pink ones.

... ... I just read the paragraph I wrote... and despite my better judgement I'm leaving it to serve as a reminder to myself not to post when excruciatingly tired. ... gawd I need sleep...

"Here in Florida they are trying to pass Amendment 8 which will allow public funds to be given to religious groups."

...which will then mean they'll have to give funding to religious groups such as Islamics and Satanists, as well as the Westboro church if they set up there. It amuses me that so many people are so often not careful in what they wish for.
